GOD SHOWS FORTH HIS POWER

Scripture Reading: Exodus 7

Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying, “When Pharaoh speaks to you, saying, ‘Show a miracle for yourselves,’ then you shall say to Aaron, ‘Take your rod and cast it before Pharaoh, and let it become a serpent.’ ” Exodus 7:8–9

This was the point of no return. The Lord was done talking about what He wanted to do through Moses. Now, He was going to show His works through hiDespite of toutcomemes of their first encounter, Moses and Aaron were to face Pharaoh again and carry out God’s instructions.  

Like the commissioned pair, we may battle uncertainties about a challenge or situation before us. But there comes a time when we must rise up and face the situation head-on. 

The Lord anticipated Pharaoh’s actions. He knew that Pharaoh would ask for proof the second time Moses and Aaron appeared before him. As the King over Egypt, Pharaoh had to determine whether Moses and Aaron had any backing for their words. He had to check out their credentials.

God told Moses and Aaron how to respond to Pharaoh’s request. Based on the earlier arrangemenhe He hmadehem, Moses had to issue the command for Aaron to act. It is a comforting truth, that God sees all the plans of the enemy and prepares us for them so we are not taken unawares by them. 

The term translated serpent here and in verses 10 and 12 is a different Hebrew word than what was used in chapter 4 verse 3. It is a word that is sometimes used to refer to large water creatures. Its appearance here may emphasise that the size of the serpent God allowed Moses’ rod to turn into before Pharaoh, was bigger and more frightening than the earlier one Moses had seen.

That means when it is time for God to show forth His power publicly on behalf of His children, He does it bigger, better and greater. What He reveals He will do in private does not compare to what He actually does in public to show forth His power for the sake of His people. 

As we obey the Lord, one step at a time, we see greater manifestations of His power in our lives.

Heavenly Father, you are the God of miracles. Show forth your power through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
