Job Opening at Green for Change Ghana

POSITION: Regional Project Coordinators

Rice farming produces significant methane emissions. However, a smarter water management technique called Alternate Wetting and Drying (AWD) can slash those emissions while saving water and improving yields. That is exactly where Green for Change Ghana (GCG) steps in. Consequently, the organization needs Regional Project Coordinators across Greater Accra, Volta, Northern, and Upper East Regions to drive this climate action forward.

The Bigger Picture Behind This Role

GCG has partnered with Erda Illumine Low Carbon Solutions (EILCS) and the Ghana Irrigation Development Authority (GIDA). Together, they are implementing an AWD Carbon Project across selected irrigation schemes. This initiative reduces methane emissions, promotes climate smart rice farming, improves soil organic carbon, and generates verified carbon credits. Furthermore, the project deploys digital Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (MRV) systems while supporting Ghana’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

What You Will Own as Regional Project Coordinator

You will provide overall coordination and supervision of project activities inside your assigned region. Your daily work will bring together rice farmers, Water User Associations (WUAs), GIDA officials, district stakeholders, and project partners.

Your core responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing project implementation according to approved work plans, timelines, budgets, and carbon standards such as Verra or Gold Standard
  • Driving adoption of AWD practices alongside climate smart agriculture, regenerative farming, and sustainable rice production
  • Mobilizing farmers and WUAs while engaging community leaders and local stakeholders for effective participation
  • Organizing training sessions and demonstration plots using farmer field learning activities on water use, crop management, and AWD techniques
  • Facilitating field technology installation including AWD tubes, sensors, and digital MRV systems
  • Coordinating data collection on soil organic carbon, greenhouse gas reductions, water use, crop yields, and other carbon accounting indicators
  • Maintaining accurate project records that comply with carbon certification and reporting standards
  • Building strong relationships with GIDA regional offices, District Assemblies, traditional authorities, and farmer organizations
  • Submitting timely weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports including success stories, lessons learned, and challenge documentation
  • Supporting validation and audit processes for carbon certification bodies and project partners
  • Identifying implementation risks while developing practical mitigation measures
  • Supervising field officers and enumerators to ensure quality project delivery

What You Need to Bring

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Agronomy, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Rural Development, Climate Change, or Agricultural Engineering
  • A Master’s Degree gives you a strong advantage

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years in agricultural development, climate change, natural resource management, or rural development projects
  • Proven track record working with farmer groups, cooperatives, or irrigation schemes
  • Background in climate smart agriculture, regenerative farming, or sustainable land management
  • Experience with carbon projects, Verra, Gold Standard, or greenhouse gas accounting is a big plus

Skills

  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and community mobilization abilities
  • Strong report writing and documentation skills
  • Solid knowledge of monitoring, evaluation, and data management
  • Ability to use digital data collection tools and mobile applications
  • Willingness to travel extensively within project communities
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
