Italy Government MAECI Scholarships 2026

International students waiting for the outcome of Italy’s prestigious government funded scholarship program can finally check their results. The Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI), through several Italian embassies worldwide, has officially released the final ranking lists for the Italy Government Scholarships 2026–2027 academic year.

This announcement marks the completion of one of Europe’s most competitive scholarship selection rounds for foreign students seeking higher education opportunities in Italy.

The latest notification, published by multiple Italian diplomatic missions including the Italian Embassy in Hanoi on 3 June 2026, confirms that selected candidates and reserve applicants can now consult the official ranking lists using their application protocol numbers.

What Is the MAECI Scholarship

The MAECI Scholarship is Italy’s flagship international scholarship program. It supports foreign students, researchers, and Italian citizens living abroad who wish to study, conduct research, or pursue higher education at Italian universities and institutions.

Every year, thousands of international applicants compete for the opportunity to receive financial assistance to study in Italy. Programs teach themselves in English or Italian. The scholarship is widely known among students targeting:

Master’s degree programs
AFAM programs (Arts, Music, and Dance)
PhD programs
Research under academic supervision
Advanced Italian language and culture courses

Final Ranking Now Available

According to the latest embassy notices, the final ranking lists now include scholarship winners, reserve candidates (waiting list applicants), and protocol numbers. Applicants whose protocol numbers do not appear in the final ranking are considered unsuccessful for the 2026–2027 intake. Several embassies clarified that non selection in the final list serves as an official notification of non award.

Where Can Applicants Check Their Results

You can verify your Italian government scholarship status through several channels:

Official websites of Italian embassies or consulates in your country
Your account on the “Study in Italy” portal
Downloadable PDF ranking lists released by some embassies

For privacy reasons, ranking lists generally display only protocol numbers rather than applicant names. Check the embassy website responsible for your country of application. Each embassy manages its own allocation and ranking process.

What Does Reserve Candidate Mean

Being placed on the reserve list does not mean rejection. Reserve candidates may still receive the scholarship if initially selected winners take certain actions:

Decline the offer
Fail to accept the scholarship within the required deadline
Do not complete documentation procedures

In previous years, reserve candidates received upgrades even weeks after the initial announcement.

When Will Applications Open Again

The 2026–2027 cycle has officially reached the results stage. International students interested in the next intake should now prepare for the upcoming 2027–2028 application season. Based on previous timelines, the next MAECI scholarship call is expected to open around March 2027, close between April and May 2027, and publish final rankings during mid 2027.

Students planning to apply next year should begin preparing these documents early:

University admission plans
English or Italian language certificates
Recommendation letters
Motivation statements
Research proposals (for PhD and research applicants)

Why This Scholarship Matters Globally

Tuition fees and living costs continue rising worldwide. Italy’s MAECI Scholarships remain one of the few major European government programs offering direct financial support to international students across multiple disciplines.

For many students from developing countries, the scholarship represents not just a chance to study abroad. It also provides access to Europe’s academic networks, research facilities, and future career opportunities.

With the final rankings now released, attention is already shifting toward the next application cycle expected in 2027. Visit the Study in Italy portal today, check your ranking status, and begin preparing for the next intake. Your Italian government funded education awaits.
