Position: Production Blastman

Underground Mining Alliance Akyem is seeking a Production Blastman for our Obuasi based operations. Underground Mining Alliance Akyem is a Joint Venture between African Underground Mining Services Limited and Rocksure International, carrying out underground development and production works for the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine. As a Production Blastman, you will not simply set explosives; you will demonstrate full understanding of charge plans, perform pre start checks, conduct workplace inspections, maintain high housekeeping standards, and ensure all tools and equipment remain serviceable and safe. Your work will directly enable efficient underground production.

Your Mission: Blast Safely, Maintain Equipment, and Comply

You will take responsibility for handling and transporting explosive materials in a safe manner according to standard. Your role includes charging and firing stope blasts according to the blast plan, demonstrating full understanding of charge plans, and charging stopes according to plan. Additionally, you will comply with all EHS&T policies, procedures, and instructions, perform pre start checks and SWICs, ensure inspections and maintenance on all equipment before use, maintain a high standard of housekeeping, and carry out standard workplace inspection practices.

Your role spans explosive handling, blast execution, safety compliance, equipment maintenance, workplace inspection, and housekeeping. Here is what you will tackle:

Explosive Handling

• You will handle and transport explosive materials in a safe manner according to standard.
• Competently maintaining magazines and storing explosives securely.

Blast Execution

• You will charge and fire stope blasts according to the blast plan.
• Demonstrating full understanding of charge plans and charging stopes according to plan.

Safety Compliance

• You will comply with all EHS&T policies, procedures, and instructions, including correct use of safety devices and protective equipment.
• Reporting hazardous situations and immediately reporting any accidents or injuries.
• Taking reasonable care for your own safety and that of other persons who may be affected by your acts.

Equipment Maintenance

• You will perform pre start checks, SWICs, and other mandatory requirements.
• Ensuring inspections and maintenance on all equipment before use.
• Ensuring that all tools remain serviceable and safe.

Workplace Inspection

• You will carry out standard workplace inspection practices and procedures.
• Preparing areas for drilling, charging, or ground support according to mine safety procedures.

Housekeeping

• You will maintain a high standard of housekeeping in your work areas.

What You Bring to the Role

Certifications & Licenses

• The relevant blasting certificate of competency from the Ghana Minerals Commission.
• First Aid and Mine Rescue Certificate.
• Mincom Operator’s certification gives you an added advantage.
• Relevant Ghanaian driving license Class C and E.

Experience

• A minimum of five years of underground mining experience.
• Prior experience working for an underground mining company.
• Experience with a variety of explosives and initiating systems used underground.
• Competent in the use of a charge up machine and efficient operation of underground charge up equipment.
• Understanding of how to handle and transport explosives in a safe manner.

Education & Communication

• A minimum requirement of WASSCE or its equivalent.
• Strong and accurate English communication, both written and verbal.
