POSITION: Accounts Officer
EBL Legal Placement & Performance is seeking an Accounts Officer to support our organisation’s financial management functions. If you have a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism, plus strong organisational and documentation skills, this role offers the opportunity to maintain financial records, prepare bank reconciliations, process invoices, file statutory returns, support payroll, prepare financial reports, and support audit processes.

As an Accounts Officer, you will not simply process payments; you will maintain accurate accounting records, monitor bank balances, manage petty cash, process supplier invoices, follow up on receivables, prepare statutory returns, support payroll, prepare financial reports, and support internal and external audits. Your work will enable us to serve our clients effectively.
Your Mission: Record, Reconcile, and Report
You will take responsibility for maintaining accurate and up to date accounting records, recording daily financial transactions, and ensuring proper filing of receipts, invoices, and payment vouchers. Your role includes preparing monthly bank reconciliation statements, monitoring bank balances, managing petty cash, processing supplier invoices, preparing and issuing invoices to clients, following up on outstanding receivables, preparing and filing statutory returns, assisting in monthly payroll preparation, preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, supporting internal and external audit processes, and performing other finance and administrative duties.
Key Responsibilities
Your role spans financial record keeping, bank and cash management, accounts payable and receivable, tax compliance, payroll support, financial reporting, audit support, and administrative tasks. Here is what you will tackle:
Financial Record Keeping
- You will maintain accurate, up to date accounting records.
- Recording daily financial transactions in the accounting system.
- Ensuring proper filing of receipts, invoices, payment vouchers, and supporting documents.
- Maintaining records of assets, liabilities, income, and expenditure.
Bank and Cash Management
- You will prepare monthly bank reconciliation statements.
- Monitoring bank balances and supporting cash flow tracking.
- Managing petty cash and ensuring proper documentation of petty cash expenses.
- Preparing payment vouchers and supporting cheque or electronic payment processing.
Accounts Payable and Receivable
- You will process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments.
- Preparing and issuing invoices to clients.
- Following up on outstanding receivables.
- Reconciling supplier and client accounts.
Tax and Statutory Compliance
- You will assist in preparing and filing statutory returns with relevant authorities including GRA, SSNIT, and other regulatory bodies.
- Supporting VAT, PAYE, withholding tax, corporate tax, and other tax related computations.
- Ensuring statutory payments meet required timelines.
- Maintaining proper documentation for tax audits and compliance reviews.
Payroll Support
- You will assist in preparing monthly payroll.
- Supporting computation of salaries, deductions, allowances, PAYE, and SSNIT contributions.
- Maintaining confidential staff payroll records.
Financial Reporting
- You will assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Supporting budget and expenditure report preparation.
- Providing financial information to management when required.
- Assisting in preparing reports for audits, projects, donors, or clients where applicable.
Audit and Internal Controls
- You will support internal and external audit processes.
- Ensuring compliance with approved financial policies and procedures.
- Identifying and reporting financial irregularities or control weaknesses.
- Ensuring all financial transactions receive proper authorisation and documentation.
Administrative Support
- You will support procurement documentation and payment processing.
- Maintaining organised financial files, both electronic and hard copy.
- Performing other finance and administrative duties assigned by management.
What You Bring to the Role
Qualifications & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related field.
- A minimum of two to three years of relevant work experience in accounting or finance.
- Experience working in a consulting firm, NGO, research organisation, private company, or project based environment gives you an advantage.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial procedures.
- A good understanding of Ghana tax and statutory compliance requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software such as Tally, QuickBooks, Sage, Xero, or similar systems.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational and documentation skills.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under minimal supervision.
- A high level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a team oriented environment.
