POSITION: Art Director
Publicis West Africa is seeking an Art Director to join our regional hub office serving Central and West Africa. If you have experience art directing photo and video shoots, collaborating with copywriters, managing production processes, and delivering insight driven visual ideas, this role offers the opportunity to conceive and execute campaigns in English, French, and Portuguese, protect brand identities, and champion craft across 22 markets.

Publicis West Africa serves as a regional hub for client operations across approximately 22 markets in Central and West Africa, with about 10 actively engaged markets acting as sub regional hubs. Campaign work spans English, French, Portuguese, and various local dialects. Collaboration with partner agencies in Francophone markets, Angola, and Nigeria ensures impactful local delivery. As an Art Director, you will not simply design; you will conceive, develop, and execute insight driven visual ideas, art direct photo and video shoots, prepare production briefs, adapt campaign visuals for different markets, lead brainstorming sessions, and ensure global standard executions.
Your Mission
You will take responsibility for conceiving, developing, and executing consistently high quality, insight driven visual ideas that respond accurately to client briefs, brand objectives, and agency creative standards. Your role includes generating strong creative concepts by interpreting briefs and partnering closely with copywriters, art directing photo and video shoots, presenting layouts and storyboards to internal stakeholders and clients, preparing clear production briefs, ensuring global standard executions, protecting brand visual identity, adapting campaign visuals for different markets, and leading brainstorming sessions.
Key Responsibilities
Your role spans concept development, execution, art direction, presentation, brand protection, adaptation, collaboration, and workflow management. Here is what you will tackle:
Concept Development
- You will conceive, develop, and execute high quality, insight driven visual ideas that respond accurately to client briefs.
- Generating strong creative concepts by interpreting briefs and partnering closely with copywriters.
Execution
- You will art direct photo and video shoots, illustration, design, and animation, providing clear creative direction to photographers, directors, and designers.
- Designing and finishing artwork across all channels to high local and international standards.
Presentation
- You will present well conceived layouts, storyboards, mood boards, and design concepts in a clear, professional manner.
- Ensuring creative work receives Creative Director approval prior to client presentation.
Production Management
- You will prepare clear, well researched production briefs for suppliers and the production studio team.
- Following through on supplier output thoughtfully and meticulously.
Brand Protection
- You will protect and uphold each brand’s visual identity, tone, and personality in line with approved brand guidelines.
- Ensuring consistency across every deliverable.
Adaptation
- You will adapt and trans create campaign visuals to suit different markets, including English, French, and Portuguese executions.
Collaboration
- You will collaborate effectively with strategy, client service, traffic, production, and external partners.
- Leading and actively participating in brainstorming sessions.
Workflow Management
- You will manage workload efficiently, working under pressure and meeting deadlines without compromising creative quality.
- Proactively anticipating challenges and identifying solutions throughout the creative and production process.
What You Bring to the Role
Qualifications & Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Advertising, or a related field.
- Five to seven years of experience in an advertising agency or creative environment.
- Proven experience developing and executing integrated, through the line campaigns.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking and high quality design execution.
- Experience collaborating with copywriters, creative directors, and production teams.
- Ability to art direct shoots and manage production processes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
