Exciting Career Opportunity at EduSpots
POSITION: App Development Manager
EduSpots is seeking an App Development Manager to take full ownership of the EduSpots App, its development, performance, and rollout across our network. If you have experience gathering user feedback and translating it into technical requirements, plus strong communication skills for non technical colleagues, this remote, Ghana based role offers the opportunity to manage the full technology stack, lead new feature development, ensure reliability in rural communities, and drive app adoption across Ghana and Kenya.
Why EduSpots?
EduSpots was created to show that communities themselves can design, lead, and sustain transformative learning. Since 2015, over 700 local leaders called Catalysts have created 50 community owned learning hubs called Spots. Each Spot is unique, but all connect through WhatsApp for Learning and the EduSpots App, advancing inclusive, future ready education. In 2026, EduSpots aims to double its impact from 50 to 100 Spots, reaching an additional 10,000 learners. As App Development Manager, you will not simply maintain code; you will take full ownership of the EduSpots App, conduct an initial audit, lead new feature development, ensure reliable performance in low connectivity environments, and champion app adoption across the network.
Your Mission
You will manage the full EduSpots technology stack: Flutter for mobile, React for web, and Ruby on Rails with PostgreSQL backend, overseeing deployment via Heroku. Your role includes taking full ownership of app development, conducting an initial audit to establish priorities across bugs, performance, and user experience, leading new feature development, ensuring reliable performance in low connectivity environments, managing app releases via Google Play Store, maintaining technical documentation, staying current with mobile development frameworks, and ensuring data security and privacy across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
Your role spans app development, technical leadership, user engagement, rollout strategy, and partnership support. Here is what you will tackle:
App Development and Technical Leadership
- You will manage the full EduSpots technology stack: Flutter (mobile), React (web), and Ruby on Rails with PostgreSQL (backend), overseeing deployment to production and staging environments via Heroku.

- Leading new feature development, making decisions about technical approach and priorities aligned with organizational goals.

- Leading ongoing development of the Android version, with potential responsibility for future iOS expansion.
- Managing app releases, version control, and deployment across Google Play Store and potentially Apple App Store.
- Maintaining clear technical documentation, ensuring transparent and sustainable architecture.
- Staying current with relevant mobile development frameworks, tools, and best practices.
- Ensuring the app meets appropriate standards for data security, privacy, and safeguarding across the UK, Ghana, and Kenya.
App Uptake and User Engagement
- You will manage the rollout strategy for the EduSpots App, monitoring clear goals for adoption across the network.
- Working closely with Regional Coordinators to gather structured feedback from Catalysts, community members, and staff.
- Translating community feedback into clear development priorities, balancing technical feasibility with user need.
- Supporting the wider team in understanding and championing the app.
- Developing and implementing strategies to drive app adoption across the EduSpots network.
- Monitoring app usage data and user engagement metrics, reporting progress and shaping future development.
Partnerships and Fundraising
- You will join Mastercard Foundation EdTech sessions as needed.
- Supporting partnerships development and fundraising needs in EdTech.
- Reporting regularly on app development progress and usage, keeping the wider team informed.
What You Bring to the Role

- Experience with version control systems (Git) and collaborative development workflows.
- Ability to develop for low bandwidth and low connectivity environments.
- Experience gathering user feedback and translating it into technical requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical concepts to non technical colleagues.
- Experience managing the rollout of a digital product, including prioritising work and communicating progress.
Desirable Experience

- Committed to EduSpots’ values of community leadership, play, teamwork, passion, care, daring, sustainable impact, and learning mindset.
