POSITION: Medical Laboratory Technician

• Follow prescribed procedures and exercise personal duty of care when maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities
• Use the laboratory computer system to input requests, match patient records, input results, generate printed reports, and create worksheets

Microbiology and testing responsibilities:

• Confirm the identity of micro organisms using appropriate tests
• Perform antimicrobial sensitivity tests correctly
• Demonstrate ability to use automated equipment and manual techniques
• Run assays using appropriate analysers while understanding the significance and implications of each result
• Carry out quality checks as required and complete quality record sheets thoroughly

Additional duties:

• Undertake any other responsibilities directed by the head of facility

Communication and Teamwork

Strong communication keeps any laboratory running smoothly. You will maintain effective dialogue with colleagues, other professional groups, and clients. Working effectively within a multidisciplinary team of health workers is essential. You will collaborate with Laboratory Attendants and other Laboratory Assistants in a collegiate manner.
