Study in Netherlands | Women 4 Water-Swarovski Scholarships 2026
Women working in water management, environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and climate resilience now have access to one of the most specialized international scholarship opportunities for the 2026 intake. Through the Women 4 Water initiative, the Swarovski Foundation is funding three full scholarships for female professionals to pursue the MSc in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands.
For applicants from developing countries who are already contributing to water, environmental, or sustainability related work, this programme offers an opportunity to gain advanced technical and leadership skills from one of the world’s leading water education institutions. The scholarships specifically target women seeking to combine innovation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable water management to address environmental challenges in their home countries.
A Scholarship Designed for Women Driving Environmental Change
The Women 4 Water–Swarovski Foundation Scholarships are not intended for general postgraduate study. Instead, they focus on developing the next generation of female professionals capable of tackling pressing global challenges related to water security, ecosystem degradation, biodiversity loss, and climate adaptation.
Successful scholars will join the one year MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development. They will follow the Water Resources and Ecosystem Health track. The programme encourages participants to develop interdisciplinary expertise that bridges environmental science, technology, and sustainable development planning.
Particular emphasis goes to candidates who demonstrate an interest in using innovation and technical tools to solve environmental problems while protecting ecosystems and natural resources.
Funding Support Available
The Swarovski Foundation will provide three full scholarships for selected candidates entering the November 2026 intake.
The scholarship removes major financial barriers for talented women from developing countries. It enables them to undertake advanced studies in the Netherlands. These awards are highly competitive, with only three scholarships available globally. Expect a rigorous selection process focused on academic potential, professional impact, and alignment with the programme’s objectives.
Candidates with Technical and Biodiversity Expertise Have an Advantage
One of the distinctive features of this scholarship is its strong preference for applicants who can integrate environmental knowledge with technical competencies.
The selection committee particularly encourages candidates working or researching in several areas:
- Biodiversity conservation
- Wetland management
- Aquatic ecosystems
- River basin ecology
- Ecosystem restoration
- Climate adaptation
- Nature based solutions
The committee also looks favorably on applicants with skills or experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing technologies, Artificial Intelligence applications, environmental modelling, and data analysis and planning tools. If you can demonstrate how these technical capabilities support sustainable water and biodiversity management, you will likely be highly competitive.
Who Is Eligible to Apply
The scholarship opens exclusively to female applicants who are citizens of low income, lower middle income, or upper middle income countries. You must currently live and work in one of those countries.
You must also demonstrate a commitment to returning to a qualifying country after completing your studies. The knowledge and skills gained through the programme should contribute to local and regional development.
To receive consideration, you must first secure unconditional academic admission to the regular one year MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft. Select the Water Resources and Ecosystem Health track. Indicate either the Environment profile or the Digital Innovation and Hydroinformatics profile during your academic application.
Applicants holding only conditional admission are not eligible. Candidates already funded through another scholarship programme cannot receive consideration for this award.
Why IHE Delft Stands Out
IHE Delft Institute for Water Education is internationally recognized as one of the world’s leading graduate institutions dedicated exclusively to water education, research, and capacity development.
Its programmes attract professionals, researchers, and policymakers from across the globe. This is especially true for developing regions facing complex water related challenges. Graduates often go on to assume leadership positions in government agencies, international organizations, research institutions, NGOs, and private sector sustainability projects.
For women seeking long term careers in environmental leadership, water governance, ecosystem restoration, or climate resilience, the institute offers both specialized expertise and an influential international network.
