Job Duties

• Perform routine and specialist infectious disease diagnostic testing across multiple laboratory disciplines.
• Rotate across bacteriology, virology, parasitology, molecular diagnostics, and mycology sections.
• Analyse and interpret laboratory results under supervision of senior biomedical scientists.
• Ensure accurate and timely reporting of clinical results within agreed service standards.
• Maintain compliance with health, safety, and laboratory quality procedures.
• Support validation and improvement of laboratory processes and workflows.
• Provide technical advice to clinicians on test selection and turnaround expectations.
• Participate in quality control, audit activities, and incident reporting procedures.
• Contribute to staff training and supervision of junior laboratory staff.
• Engage in continuous professional development and specialist training programmes.
• Participate in shift rotations, including weekend, on-call, and bank holiday schedules.

Job Requirements

• HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
• BSc degree accredited by an approved professional body.
• Completion or progress toward IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Microbiology or equivalent experience.
• Experience in clinical laboratory diagnostics within infectious sciences.
• Understanding of microbiology, virology, and molecular diagnostic techniques.
• Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary laboratory teams.
• Strong attention to detail in sample analysis and data reporting.
