Hungary CEEPUS Scholarships 2027

Students across Central Europe and the Western Balkans now have a remarkable opportunity to experience international education without overwhelming financial burdens. The Central European Exchange Program for University Studies (CEEPUS) has officially opened applications for its academic mobility programme, connecting universities across 16 countries and enabling participants to study, teach, conduct research, complete internships, or attend summer schools with host country financial support.

What Makes CEEPUS Stand Out

Unlike traditional scholarship programmes focused on single destinations, CEEPUS creates an interconnected academic network spanning an entire region. Consequently, participants can build meaningful partnerships, gain international exposure, and experience diverse higher education systems through one accessible programme.

The programme’s strongest feature involves Network Mobility, allowing universities from at least three participating countries to collaborate on joint academic and research activities. Alternatively, applicants can apply independently as Freemovers if their institution does not participate in established networks.

Participating Countries

Mobility opportunities exist across 16 nations:

  • Albania, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria
  • Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo
  • Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Poland
  • Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia

Available Mobility Types

CEEPUS accommodates various academic stages and objectives through distinct pathways:

  • Semester Student Mobility (3–5 months) : Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD students can study courses, earn credits, or complete internships
  • Short-Term Student Mobility (1–2 months) : Thesis students and PhD candidates can conduct research, laboratory work, or consultations
  • Summer Schools (6–30 days) : University students can participate in intensive academic programmes
  • Teacher Mobility (minimum 5 working days) : Faculty members can teach or supervise theses at partner institutions
  • Freemover Mobility (variable duration) : Students or teachers outside CEEPUS networks can arrange independent placements

Eligibility Requirements

Prospective applicants must meet specific criteria for consideration. Candidates should be enrolled as students or employed as teachers at accredited universities in participating countries. Student applicants must complete at least two semesters before applying. Both Network Mobility and Freemover applications receive equal consideration.

Applicants with different citizenships remain eligible if they study or teach in CEEPUS member countries. However, candidates cannot receive scholarships to study or teach in their own citizenship or residence countries. Double funding from another scholarship programme for the same mobility activity is prohibited. Student mobility funding limits Bachelor’s and Master’s study cycles to a maximum of 10 months total.

Financial Support Structure

CEEPUS scholarships operate through host country financing rather than central funding bodies. Consequently, successful applicants receive payments directly from their destination country, with support adjusted according to local living costs.

For instance, scholarship recipients studying in Hungary receive payments through their host university after admission confirmation. Funding generally covers living expenses during approved mobility periods, though exact amounts differ between destination countries.

Application Process

Begin by identifying suitable host universities within the CEEPUS network. For Network Mobility, secure approval from both home university network coordinators and host university coordinators. Freemover applicants must contact host universities directly and obtain formal Letters of Acceptance before submitting online applications.

All applications proceed electronically through the official CEEPUS online portal, where the Mobility Wizard guides applicants through each submission stage.

Critical Deadlines

Network Mobility applications for winter (first) semesters close on 31 August 2026, while summer (second) semester applications close on 31 December 2026.

Freemover applicants for winter semesters can apply on a rolling basis from 1 July until available places fill. Freemover applications for summer semesters must submit by 30 November 2026.

Given that host university approvals and supporting documents require considerable time, prospective applicants should begin preparations well before deadlines. This accessible programme offers transformative academic experiences across Central Europe’s vibrant educational landscape.
