POSITION: Internal Control Officer

We currently seek a dynamic, self-motivated individual to join our Internal Control Department as an Internal Control Officer for the Western Zone. A Role of Critical Importance

The Internal Control Officer position transcends routine monitoring functions. You will take responsibility for overseeing day-to-day control activities across branches, including transaction reviews, cash handling oversight, compliance monitoring, and investigative duties. Your vigilance will directly protect the bank’s assets while ensuring operational integrity at every level. Core Responsibilities

Your daily activities will encompass a comprehensive range of control and oversight functions:

• Review account-opening documentation for completeness, accuracy, and KYC compliance
• Conduct call-overs of high-value transactions against approved thresholds
• Perform seriality and authorization checks on payment orders
• Oversee clearing processes, returned cheques, and suspense or transit accounts
• Review ATM card issuance and cheque book administration procedures
• Review daily postings and General Ledger or Profit and Loss movement reports for anomalies
• Ensure expense and cash advance approvals adhere strictly to policy guidelines
• Execute GL proofing and reconciliation activities thoroughly
• Carry out spot inspections including vault cash counts, fund transfers, and cash-in-vault reconciliations
• Conduct monthly security sweeps and verify CCTV footage, producing ISO-compliant reports
• Regularly identify and resolve items in suspense or transit accounts
• Validate that branch expenses and cash advances follow policy guidelines
• Investigate transaction discrepancies or suspected fraud and prepare detailed reports
• Support branch investigations and participate actively in resolution and escalation processes
• Escalate control breaches or recurring control lapses to management promptly
• Continuously assess branch processes and risk exposures while making improvement recommendations
• Provide control-related training or coaching to branch personnel periodically
• Facilitate internal and external audit queries while coordinating findings tracking and closure

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Educational Foundation: Candidates must hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field. This educational background should demonstrate strong understanding of financial principles and control frameworks.
• Professional Experience: We require a minimum of three years of progressive experience in banking operations, internal audit, or control functions. Branch-level exposure provides a distinct advantage, as you will understand the operational realities of our banking network.
• Professional Certifications: Professional qualifications and certifications in any of the following will provide a significant advantage: ICA, CIB, CISA, CAMS, or relevant internal control certifications. These credentials demonstrate your commitment to professional development and specialized knowledge.

• Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of banking operations and regulatory requirements proves fundamental to success. Your knowledge of KYC procedures, transaction monitoring, and compliance frameworks will enable effective oversight. Proficiency in risk assessment and control evaluation remains essential.
• Analytical Excellence: Sharp analytical skills combined with meticulous attention to detail will distinguish top candidates. Your ability to identify anomalies, investigate discrepancies, and recommend practical solutions directly impacts operational integrity.
• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills enable effective reporting and stakeholder engagement. Your ability to provide training and coaching to branch personnel enhances our control culture. Strong interpersonal skills facilitate productive relationships across departments.
