YOU ARE QUALIFIED

SCRIPTURE READING   Genesis 41:37-45

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has shown you all this, there is no one as discerning and wise as you. You shall be over my house, and all my people shall be ruled according to your word; only regarding the throne will I be greater than you.”_ Genesis 41:39-40

Joseph emerged from prison with a solution for Egypt's impending crisis. Think about it. The man started life in Egypt as a slave, yet the Lord brought him before Pharaoh to offer help. Pharaoh was struggling with the meaning of a troubling dream he had had. His experts and counsellors could not unravel the dream nor discern what it might mean. When the stakes had gotten so high for the nation, Joseph was brought in.

Without much drama, Joseph explained the meaning of the dream to Pharaoh. The dream pointed to two seasons ahead for Egypt economically. There was going to be a seven-year season of abundance followed by a seven-year season of acute famine. So there was good news and bad news.

The question for Pharaoh now was whom he had to appoint to oversee these fourteen years. The person had to be a strategic thinker who could turn a national threat into national growth. Pharaoh settled on Joseph. He did not care that Joseph was not a natural-born Egyptian, nor that he was an ex-convict. To Pharaoh, Joseph's qualification overrode all other considerations.

- God can set up situations for you. The Lord set Joseph up for promotion. He will do the same for you. He will instigate events in your favour.

- God can overrule your setbacks. The Lord turned all the afflictions Joseph had suffered to his advantage. He will do the same for you.

A person taking a casual look at Joseph may see him as an overnight success. In truth, his journey from the pit to the pinnacle took thirteen hard years. This part of Joseph's story reminds us of some important principles regarding promotion and advancement. When God works with us, He takes us through various processes until we arrive at the expected destination.

The same God who produces overnight miracles and supernatural happenings is the same God who builds our gift through the appropriate processes.

Heavenly Father, your grace has qualified me. Use all my experiences to showcase your glory through me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
