POSSESS YOUR INHERITANCE

SCRIPTURE READING: Genesis 13:14-18

> _And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth; so that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. Arise, walk in the land through its length and its width, for I give it to you._ *Genesis 13:16-17*

If you can see it, you can work towards it. If you can work towards it, you can possess it. In addition to seeing the land, God told Abraham further actions he had to take to receive the Promised Land as his inheritance.

- Arise.

 The word "Arise" as it occurs in the text does not mean that Abram was seated or lying down when he was commanded to walk. It is a call to action. For us to arise, we must be aware of what is at stake and take charge.

As we read the scriptures, we see that many times when God wanted people to do things for Him, He would command them to rise or arise.

In a military sense, the word 'arise' is used to describe a champion stepping out into battle. It means the champion is ready to fight and has shown up. When God tells us to arise, He wants us to step out and let everyone know that we are ready for action.

- Walk.

 Walking creates movement. It moves us from one place to another. The Lord did not want Abraham to settle in one place and hope that the promise of God would come to him. He had to take action towards the promise the Lord had given him.

Abraham had to walk the land across 'its length and its width'. That is a lot of walking. He might have taken a long time to do all that walking.

The Lord tied His promises to Abraham's actions. When God gives us a promise, we must be willing to believe it even when it has not yet manifested before our eyes. We must be ready to take a step of faith and claim all that the Lord has prepared for us even when it has not yet manifested. 

Faith is believing that what God says is true, and when we choose to respond to God's Word, the results will be evident.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, today I step out boldly to take what you have given to me. By faith I walk into my inheritance. In Jesus' name, Amen.
