WALK IN VICTORY
SCRIPTURE READING Deuteronomy 11:18-25
For if you carefully keep all these commandments which I command you to do—to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to hold fast to Him—then the Lord will drive out all these nations from before you, and you will dispossess greater and mightier nations than yourselves._ Deuteronomy 11:22-23
Abraham's descendants had to drive out those who had taken possession of the land that God promised to the father of their nation. About 600 years after Abraham had seen the land and walked its length and breadth, it was now time for occupation.
Two actions were required for Abraham's descendants to take the land. One of the actions would be taken by the people would take the other actioneople. That means there was both a spiritual and a physical component to what had to happen.
- The Lord will drive out all these nations.
This is the spiritual part of what would take place. That means God would first deal with the spiritual forces behind the occupants of the land. The nations that dwelt in the Promised Land were worshippers of other gods. From these gods, they derived the spiritual backing for their undertakings.
Before Israel acted physically, God had to go ahead of them to clear a spiritual path for them. The same thing happens today for the believer. The Lord goes ahead of us through His angels to make a way for us.
- You will dispossess the nations.
This is the physical part of what would take place. The children of Israel had to take physical action to move the nations that had occupied the land that God promised to Abraham.
After the Lord won the spiritual battle for His people, they had to fight their way into victory. Some believers assume that once spiritual victory is won, there will be no need to fight any physical battle. Once in a while, the Lord wins for us both spiritually and physically. The routine, however, is that after spiritual battles are won, we still fight the physical battles.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, you have won the spiritual battle for me. Now, I go ahead to win the physical battle. In Jesus' name, Amen.
