THE OUTPOURING

*SCRIPTURE READING: Joel 2:28-32

> _And it shall come to pass afterward that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions._ *Joel 2:28*

We started our devotions for 40 Days of Power with the prophet Joel. As we start the last full week of our 40 days of prayer and fasting, we return to Joel. The Lord promised that after His people responded to the call to prayer, He would do several things for them. Included in God's promises to His people was a massive outpouring of God's Spirit on the people.

  The Spirit on all flesh.

The promise of the outpouring of God's Spirit is for 'all flesh' — meaning all kinds of people. God would not limit the work of His Spirit to only a few people. In Old Testament Israel, God's Spirit came upon a few select people — kings, priests, prophets and deliverers. In this outpouring, the general population of the people would experience God.

  Sons and daughters prophesying.

 The Lord promised that His Spirit would be poured out on all sons and daughters so that everyone could prophesy and share His Holy Word with the rest of society. He would not only work with the tribe of the Levites but with all the people. In the New Testament, this promise includes non-Jews — Gentiles.

   Old men dreaming dreams.

Many times, when God does something new, those who are old or aged feel left out. Not this time. We live in times when God is no respecter of age. He wants to use grandparents and great-grandparents. As the Lord used Moses and Caleb in their old age, so does He want to use the elderly in our time. If you are advanced in age, get ready to dream dreams. God is not finished with you.

  Young men seeing visions.

 When God's Spirit is poured out upon a people, He empowers young people to see visions. We want to see God raise young visionary leaders for our day. May the Lord open the eyes of the children and youth to the awesomeness of His power at work in them.

We are living in the days of prophecy, dreams and visions.*PRAYER

Heavenly Father, pour out your Spirit on me afresh. Do mighty works with me and through me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
