Study in the Netherlands | University of Twente Scholarships 2027
The University of Twente Scholarship (UTS) offers foreign students a valuable funding route for September 2027 Master’s enrolment. This award provides between €3,000 and €22,000 for one academic year, making it a significant financial support option. However, applicants must understand the fine print before celebrating.
Scholarship Benefits
UTS operates as a contribution toward study-related costs rather than comprehensive funding. Selected students decide how to allocate the money, but it does not automatically cover tuition, rent, visa costs, or living expenses. Consequently, applicants who cannot cover remaining costs should not apply.
For two-year Master’s programmes, students may receive a second UTS award equal to the first year’s amount. However, continuation requires meeting academic progress requirements:
- Average grade of 7 out of 10
- At least 50% of European Credits
- Completion by the third quartile of the first year
This structure rewards strong admission profiles initially and then expects scholarship holders to prove their performance after arrival.
UTS recipients may also access the Kipaji Scholarship for programmes starting September 2027. Applicants must first apply for UTS and mention their Kipaji interest in the motivation section. Kipaji is not a separate shortcut around UTS but connects to the UTS route with additional requirements.
Eligible Programmes
This scholarship applies to eligible Master’s degree programmes at the University of Twente. Major exclusions include:
- Undergraduate degrees and short courses
- Pre-Master programmes
- Master’s programmes at the Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC)
- Applicants should confirm their chosen MSc programme’s eligibility before preparing applications.
Eligibility Criteria
UTS targets excellent students generally among the top 5% to 10% of their graduating class. Eligible applicants must:
- Hold non-EU/EEA nationality
- Apply for eligible Master’s programmes starting September 2027
- Receive provisional or full admission from UT
- Obtain a University of Twente student number
- Have not graduated from UT programmes previously
- Not be current UT students
- Not qualify for Dutch study loans
- Meet Dutch visa conditions
- Demonstrate English proficiency
Exclusions:
- Dutch and EU/EEA students
- Current University of Twente students
- Pre-Master or ITC Faculty applicants
- Students eligible for statutory tuition fees
- Those who cannot cover remaining costs after the scholarship
Non-EU/EEA students with Dutch residence permits making them eligible for statutory fees cannot receive UTS. If a recipient later becomes eligible for statutory fees, the scholarship cancels immediately.
