Job Summary

We currently seek a motivated Survey Assistant to join our team on a fixed term contract basis at our Obuasi operation. This position offers a competitive work roster and an attractive remuneration package, including a competitive salary and performance based incentive payments. Your work will directly support accurate mine planning, statutory compliance, and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Collect survey data and set out mine development accurately, working closely with the Mine Surveyor to ensure precision in all measurements.
• Maintain survey equipment diligently, ensuring all instruments remain in optimal working condition for reliable data collection.
• Prepare and maintain survey records systematically, contributing to accurate mine plans and compliance with statutory and company requirements.
• Participate in team learning, training programs, and business improvement activities to develop your survey capability continuously.
• Maintain accurate and up to date spatial inputs required for statutory underground and surface survey plans and operational decision making.
• Actively participate in coaching, knowledge sharing, and on the job development with guidance from the Survey Superintendent.
• Follow established survey guidelines, standards, and procedures to maintain data integrity and accuracy.
• Support the implementation of survey procedures, systems, and controls as directed by the Manager Surveyor.
• Complete daily and weekly underground and surface surveys to support production, development, and infrastructure requirements within the assigned block group.
• Support survey tasks related to the reconciliation process to ensure consistency between planned and actual spatial data.
• Prepare daily and weekly survey updates for operational and planning teams.
• Maintain a fit for purpose Deswik Survey Master file through correct data capture, file updates, and adherence to the network file structure.
• Prepare monthly reporting inputs to ensure survey data aligns with mine planning and production requirements.
• Participate in survey related business improvement initiatives aimed at improving data quality, accuracy, and turnaround time.

Qualification and Experience

To succeed in this role, you must bring a combination of academic qualifications, practical experience, and personal attributes. Specifically, we require:

• Educational Qualification: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, or a closely related discipline.
• Registration: Completion of mine surveyor registration or progress toward registration as required by the jurisdiction.
• Certifications: Underground and surface induction and mine site safety training certifications.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of experience in predominantly underground mining survey operations, with exposure to surface survey activities.
• Technical Exposure: Familiarity with development surveys, stope surveys, reconciliation activities, and void modelling.
• Software Proficiency: Awareness of Deswik survey workflows is desirable; proficiency in AutoCAD or equivalent software under supervision.
• Instrument Skills: Proficiency in basic mine survey instruments such as Leica or Trimble equipment.
• Data Handling: Strong capability in data handling and reporting, including Excel and GIS tools.
• Communication: Effective communication and task management skills.
• Driver’s Licence: Valid manual driver’s licence where required by site.
• Physical Capability: Able to carry and operate survey equipment over uneven terrain and in confined spaces, working underground and on surface daily.
