POSITION: Commercial Manager

Job Summary

We currently seek a Project Commercial Manager to join our team on an expatriate assignment in Ghana. This position places you at the heart of our project delivery, where you will provide commercial and contract management, procurement, and cost and value management services onsite. Your leadership will directly influence project profitability, contract performance, and team development.

Responsibilities

• Provide support for the submission of pre qualification and tenders as required to secure future workload and expand our project pipeline.
• Prepare and update tender and construction risk management evaluations, identifying and mitigating potential commercial risks.
• Secure financial instruments including tender, performance and retention bonds, advance payment guarantees, contract and professional indemnity insurance policies.
• Prepare and submit Interim Applications for Payment with supporting documents and calculations for approval and payment of Interim Certificates.
• Ensure timely notifications and pursue Entitlement to Claims for Additional Time and Costs, maintaining accurate records in SharePoint collaborator.
• Prepare Monthly progress reports for submission to the Employer, ensuring transparency and accountability.
• Manage the DAB along with organising visits and required documentation for dispute resolution.
• Report internally on budget, cost versus value, and prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly cashflow forecasts.
• Engage in dialogue with the operational lead regarding constructive challenge and performance improvement.
• Train, develop, and manage the team of Quantity Surveying staff, building capability and ensuring high performance.
• Liaise with the Assistant Engineer, Engineer, and Employer to prepare and secure Payment of Certified amounts.
• Procure Subcontractors, Consultants, and Materials (excluding early and long lead packages) efficiently.
• Ensure timely and accurate file management for all Commercial documentation held in SharePoint.
• Manage Client, Employer, and Engineer relationships strategically to foster collaboration and trust.
• Ensure the Project Quantity Surveyor undertakes their duties in respect of procurement, interim payments, and subcontractor payments timely and in line with contractual and programme requirements.
• Manage Consultancy, Subcontractor, and Supplier relationships from administration of agreements to advancement payments and final payments.

Qualifications and Experience

To succeed in this role, you must bring a combination of academic qualifications, professional experience, and personal attributes. Specifically, we require:

• Educational Qualification: Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, Building, or a closely related discipline.
• Experience: Proven experience in commercial, contract management, and quantity surveying at a senior level in a complex construction project environment.
• Claims Management: Demonstrated experience in claims management, dispute resolution, and arbitration processes.
• International Experience: Prior international experience is required; experience in Africa is highly desirable.
• Contract Knowledge: Strong proficiency in managing FIDIC Yellow Book contracts is essential.
• Professional Membership: Membership or willingness to work towards Chartered Membership of RICS is desirable.
• Leadership: Proven ability to train, develop, and manage professional teams effectively.
• Communication: Excellent communication and negotiation skills for engaging diverse stakeholders.
