Fully Funded SSN Media Fellowship 2026-2027

Applications are open for the Scholars Strategy Network’s Media Fellowship. This program helps scholars build stronger media communication skills. It’s designed for SSN members new to public engagement work. Fellows receive mentorship, training, and support throughout the year. This marks the program’s fourth cohort since its 2023 launch. Applications close September 21, 2026.

This fellowship does not provide a stipend or financial award. Its value lies in mentorship, training, and networking opportunities.

What Fellows Receive

• A yearlong mentor pairing with an experienced public scholar
• Roughly five structured mentor-mentee meetings across the fellowship
• Media workshops covering interviews, op-eds, and messaging strategy
• Support drafting and pitching op-eds from SSN staff
• Help identifying relevant media contacts and opportunities
• Ongoing guidance on public communication strategy

Who Can Apply

• Must be a current Scholars Strategy Network member
• Must want to strengthen media engagement skills
• Must have research suitable for public communication
• Should be new to media work or seeking to grow further
• Must commit to workshops and mentor meetings all year

Required Materials

• Basic contact information and personal details
• A short research project description or abstract
• A 500–1,000-word media engagement interest statement
• Notes on desired mentor-meeting topics
• A link to your current CV

Program Timeline

• September 21, 2026: Application deadline
• October 2026: Fellows notified and matched with mentors
• November 2026: First media workshop begins
• Spring 2027: Two more workshops take place
• June 2027: Program concludes with final evaluation
