The U.S. Department of State invites secondary-level educators worldwide to apply for the Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program. This prestigious six-week professional learning opportunity brings international teachers to the United States for academic seminars, classroom observation, and cultural exchange. The program is fully funded and designed for practicing teachers who want to enhance their skills and build cross-cultural connections.

What the Program Offers

Selected participants receive comprehensive support throughout their U.S. experience:

  • J-1 visa sponsorship and official program support
  • Round-trip airfare to and within the United States
  • Full academic program fees at a host university
  • Free housing and daily meals during the six-week stay
  • Health coverage for accident and sickness
  • Local transportation to your practicum school

Academic and Professional Development

Participants attend graduate-level seminars focusing on new teaching methodologies, student-centered learning, content-based instruction, and instructional technology. You will complete a minimum of 40 hours in a field experience with a U.S. partner educator at a local secondary school. Additionally, you can engage in an online professional learning community with international peers to share best practices. The program also offers intensive English language instruction for those who need additional practice.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Applicants must be current secondary-level, full-time teachers at institutions serving primarily local populations.
  • Eligible subjects include English, EFL, mathematics, science, social studies, journalism, communications, and special education.
  • You must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent and have a minimum of three years of full-time teaching experience by the program start, with five or more years preferred.
  • Teachers must work with students between approximately 12 and 18 years of age more than 50% of their time.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is required, typically demonstrated through a TOEFL score of 450 or equivalent.
