JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship Program 2026

Applications are open for the JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship FY2026. This program supports researchers from developing countries worldwide. Fellows conduct advanced research under JIRCAS scientist supervision. The FY2026 cycle offers five distinct research themes. Locations include Tsukuba, Japan, and a Thailand project site. This fellowship strengthens agricultural, forestry, and fisheries research capacity.

• BNI-release mechanisms in maize genetics
• Methanogenic microbial consortia for biomethane production
• Mungbean emergence under soil crust conditions
• Phosphate-solubilizing microorganisms in tropical cropping
• Sugarcane responses under multi-stress climate conditions

Who Can Apply

• Must be a citizen of a developing country
• Must currently work at a research institution or university
• Must return home to continue research after completion
• Requires at least a master’s degree in a relevant field
• Must commit exclusively to the chosen research theme
• Must demonstrate good health and language proficiency
• Requires institutional endorsement from your employer
• Thailand-based Theme 5 prefers Thai nationals or residents
