Scout Adventures Volunteer Program 2026 in UK | Fully Funded
Scout Adventures invites applicants from the UK and around the world to join its Residential Volunteer Program for 2026-2027. This paid volunteering opportunity places participants as Outdoor Activity Instructors at adventure centres across the UK, offering hands-on experience in outdoor education and leadership.
Benefits
Selected volunteers receive comprehensive support throughout their placement:
- Weekly allowance: £45 for international participants, £35 for UK applicants
- Reimbursement for direct costs associated with the role
- Free on-site accommodation and all meals
- Full training and uniform provided
- Certificate of Sponsorship for international applicants needing visas
- Airport pickup arranged upon arrival
The program runs for 8-12 months, with placements beginning in September 2026 or January 2027. Volunteers commit to approximately 35 hours per week across five days, with up to 18 days off during the placement.
Volunteer Pathways
Scout Adventures offers two distinct routes:
- UK Volunteer Trainee Instructor Programme: Available to UK applicants only, this pathway provides structured training towards becoming a qualified outdoor instructor.
- Residential Volunteer Programme: Open to both UK and international applicants, this pathway immerses participants in centre operations while developing instructing skills.
Key Responsibilities
As an Outdoor Activity Instructor, you will:
- Lead and support adventure-based activities for young people
- Assist in training and guiding participants
- Develop leadership and teamwork skills
- Contribute to centre operations and customer service
The program provides full training, so no prior qualifications or experience are required. You simply need enthusiasm, a positive attitude, and a willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be aged 18 or older at the start of the placement
- Possess a good standard of English
- Demonstrate high energy and a positive “can-do” attitude
- Be available for the full placement duration
The program is open to all nationalities. Previous scouting or guiding experience is beneficial but not required.
How to Apply
Submit your application online through the official Scout Adventures website. You will need:
- A completed online application form
- A letter of recommendation from a non-relative (scout leader, teacher, or sports coach)
- A short 2-minute video introducing yourself
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an online interview. Applications remain open until eight weeks before the placement starts.
Critical Deadline
With 30 places available across five centres, early application is strongly recommended. No specific closing date has been announced, but positions fill quickly. This opportunity offers exceptional value for those seeking international work experience, career development in outdoor education, or a life-changing gap year experience.
