WHO Global Internship Program 2026 (Fully Funded)
WHO Global Internship Program 2026 (Fully Funded)
The World Health Organization (WHO) invites students and recent graduates to apply for its Global Internship Program 2026. This competitive opportunity places interns across WHO headquarters in Geneva, regional offices, and country offices worldwide. Participants gain hands-on experience in public health, research, communications, administration, and technical programmes while working alongside global health experts.
Internship Benefits
Selected interns receive comprehensive support through this professional development opportunity:
- Living allowance for eligible interns requiring financial support
- Medical and accident insurance coverage throughout the internship period
- Lunch vouchers at certain duty stations
- Professional development through practical project work and networking opportunities
- Global exposure to international health initiatives and policy development
The internship duration ranges from 6 to 24 weeks, with placements available in Geneva and other locations. Since 2020, WHO has enhanced the program’s accessibility, particularly for applicants from low- and middle-income countries, by including financial support measures.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must meet specific criteria for consideration:
- Hold a valid passport from any WHO Member State
- Be at least 20 years of age at the time of application
- Be enrolled in a university course leading to a formal qualification, or have completed a degree within the past six months
- Have completed at least three years of full-time university studies
- Be fluent in at least one WHO working language
- Not be related to a WHO staff member
- Not have previously participated in WHO’s Internship Programme
How to Apply
All applications must be submitted online through the WHO Careers portal. You must create a profile in WHO’s recruitment system and submit applications under the Global Internship Vacancy Notice. WHO opens internship vacancy notices twice yearly, from January to June and July to December.
Application Timeline
Each internship position has its own deadline, and positions are posted on a rolling basis throughout the year. If you do not hear back within four to eight weeks after the vacancy closes, you can assume you were not shortlisted. Unsuccessful applicants are welcome to reapply to future vacancies.
This program offers exceptional value for students passionate about global health, public policy, and international development, providing a transformative pathway into careers with the United Nations system.
