POSITION: Senior Manager, Platform Operations

Job Summary

We currently seek a Senior Manager, Platform Operations to join our IT Operations team. This position places you at the heart of our technology ecosystem, where you will provide strategic leadership, governance, and operational excellence for our enterprise platforms. You will ensure availability, resilience, security, performance, and continuous improvement of platforms supporting all business services. Your leadership will directly influence our ability to deliver reliable, scalable, and cost efficient technology solutions.

Responsibilities

Platform Operations Leadership

• Develop and execute the enterprise platform operations strategy, driving continuous improvement across all platform activities.
• Lead all operational activities relating to enterprise platforms, building a highly reliable, scalable, and resilient technology ecosystem.
• Manage API platforms including APIGEE, MADAPI, and the Enterprise Service Framework.

DevOps and Platform Engineering

• Lead the DevOps organisation responsible for modern software delivery and platform automation.
• Build and mature DevOps capabilities, defining CI/CD standards and standardising deployment pipelines.
• Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), champion GitOps practices, and drive Platform Engineering initiatives.
• Reduce deployment lead times, increase release frequency, and improve deployment success rates.
• Eliminate manual operational activities through strategic automation.

Database Administration

• Provide strategic leadership for all enterprise database platforms including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, and Cassandra.
• Ensure High Availability, Replication, Clustering, Backup and Recovery, Disaster Recovery, and Capacity Planning.
• Drive Database Performance Tuning, Security, Lifecycle Management, Monitoring, Patch Management, and automation.

Platform Availability and Reliability

• Ensure all platforms consistently meet availability targets, leading initiatives around High Availability, Resilience, Redundancy, and Disaster Recovery.
• Oversee Business Continuity, Capacity Management, Platform Health, and Platform Optimisation.
• Target platform uptime exceeding agreed organisational SLAs.

Monitoring, Observability and Automation

• Oversee Proactive Platform Monitoring, Application Performance Monitoring (APM), Log Analytics, and Synthetic Monitoring.
• Implement Event Correlation, Alerting, Self-Healing Automation, and AI Operations (AIOps).
• Reduce Mean Time to Detect (MTTD) and Mean Time to Recover (MTTR).

Vendor and Financial Management

• Oversee Vendor Performance, SLA Governance, Contract Management, and Platform Licensing.
• Manage Capacity Forecasting, Budget Management, Cloud Cost Optimisation, and Technology Procurement.
• Drive operational cost efficiency without compromising service quality.

Operational Excellence

• Drive operational maturity by establishing Standard Operating Procedures, Operational Runbooks, and Platform Standards.
• Implement Engineering Standards, Automation Standards, Operational Reviews, and Service Improvement Plans.
• Lead continuous service improvement initiatives across the organisation.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate closely with Software Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, Cyber Security, and Service Management teams.
• Engage with Product Owners, Business Units, Executive Leadership, and Technology Vendors.
• Ensure platform capabilities align with business priorities and technology roadmaps.

Qualifications Required and Experience

To succeed in this role, you must bring a combination of academic qualifications, professional experience, and competencies. Specifically, we require:

Education

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or its equivalent.
• Professional certifications in Databases, DevOps, Systems Administration, Platform Engineering, and other relevant IT domains.
• Agile certification is a plus.
• MBA or MSc degree in IT, Software Engineering, or Computer Science is a plus.

Experience

• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in enterprise IT operations, infrastructure, platform engineering, DevOps, or cloud operations.
• At least 5 years leading large, multidisciplinary technical teams in a managerial role.
• Proven experience managing enterprise platforms supporting mission-critical business services.
• Experience leading DevOps transformation and CI/CD implementation.
• Strong background in database administration and operational governance.
• Experience in cloud operations (Azure and or AWS) and hybrid infrastructure.
• Experience in telecoms or regulated environments and multi stakeholder delivery models is a plus.

Professional and Technical Competencies

• Platform Operations and API platform management (APIGEE, MADAPI, Enterprise Service Framework).
• Container Orchestration and API and service Connectivity Management including Kubernetes, OpenShift, Tanzu, and Kong.
• Cloud Infrastructure (Azure, AWS), DevOps and CI/CD.
• Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Enterprise Databases (Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra DB).
• Linux and Windows Server Administration, ITIL Service Management.
• Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity.
• Cybersecurity Fundamentals.
• Scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
• Platform Engineering and SRE principles.
• Automation and Orchestration.
• Knowledge of IT service management, reliability, capacity, monitoring, incident and problem linkages, and DR and BCP requirements.
• Structured root cause thinking, data-driven decisions, and risk-based trade-offs.
• TCP/IP, LAN and WAN topologies and troubleshooting skills.
• Metrics and reporting dashboards.
