POSITION: Physics Lecturer

The Role

As our Physics Lecturer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering our Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) programme. You will design and deliver engaging Physics courses that inspire our students and prepare them for successful teaching careers. Your responsibilities will extend beyond the classroom. You will assess student progress, supervise research projects, and contribute to the academic community through research and publication. Your work will directly impact the quality of science education in schools across the region.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Teaching: You will teach Physics courses within the B.Ed. programme. Your approach will be interactive and student centered, making complex concepts accessible and exciting.
• Curriculum Development: You will prepare teaching, learning, and assessment materials. You will ensure these resources align with current educational standards and best practices.
• Assessment: You will conduct continuous assessment and examinations. You will provide timely and constructive feedback to support student learning.
• Supervision: You will supervise students’ research projects and their supported teaching in schools (STS). You will guide them in applying theoretical knowledge to real classroom settings.
• Research and Publication: You will conduct research and publish your findings in recognised academic journals. This will contribute to the body of knowledge in Physics education.
• Mentorship: You will mentor students and participate actively in college and departmental activities. You will foster a supportive learning environment that encourages academic and personal growth.

Qualifications and Experience

To be considered for this role, you must possess a First Degree, MPhil, and PhD in Physics or a related field from a recognised university. A professional teaching qualification, such as a B.Ed., PGDE, or Diploma in Education, is mandatory. Furthermore, you must have a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience at the tertiary level. This experience will demonstrate your ability to engage and inspire university level students.

Required Skills and Competencies

• Academic Rigour: You must demonstrate a strong command of Physics content and pedagogical methods.
• Teaching Excellence: You must possess excellent communication and presentation skills to convey complex ideas effectively.
• Technological Integration: You must be computer literate and capable of integrating technology into your teaching and research. This includes using educational software and online resources.
• Research Orientation: You must show a commitment to scholarly activity and a track record of or potential for publication.
• Interpersonal Skills: You must work collaboratively with colleagues and mentor students effectively.
