Job Summary

We currently seek a Tower Crane Operator to join our team at the processing plant in Tarkwa. This position places you at the heart of our maintenance and construction activities, where you will operate and maintain 20-tonne tower cranes to support plant operations. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the availability of plant equipment, upholding safety standards, and contributing to the success of our mining operations.

Responsibilities

• Abide by workplace safety and health requirements for tower crane operation, prioritising safety above all else.
• Conduct pre-start, daily, and routine inspections of the crane and report any defects or unsafe conditions immediately.
• Interpret and adhere to hand signals, radio communications, and instructions from authorised riggers and supervisors during lifting operations.
• Inspect all lifting equipment, including slings, shackles, hooks, and accessories, to ensure they remain fit for purpose before use.
• Maintain accurate records of crane inspections, operational checks, maintenance requirements, and lifting activities.
• Enforce the filling of risk assessment forms in the logbook before commencing any job.
• Plan, coordinate, and monitor daily tower crane inspection activities to support plant availability.
• Clean, lubricate, and maintain mechanisms such as cables, pulleys, and grappling devices.
• Determine load weights and check them against lifting capacities to prevent overload.
• Inspect equipment, structures, and materials to identify the cause of errors, problems, or defects.
• Coordinate with maintenance and operations teams to support plant availability and planned maintenance activities.
• Report all accidents and incidents, particularly near misses, and participate in the investigation process.

Qualifications Required

To succeed in this role, you must bring a combination of technical qualifications, practical experience, and personal attributes. Specifically, we require:

• Educational Qualification: Mechanical Engineering Technician Part II, Motor Vehicle Technician Part II, or equivalent from a recognised institution.
• Certification: Mineral Commission certification as a Mobile or Tower Crane Operator is an added advantage.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience operating 20-tonne tower cranes in a mining environment, specifically within a processing plant.
• Technical Knowledge: Good understanding of crane operating signals and the ability to inspect equipment to identify defects or problems.
• Safety Focus: Strong commitment to reporting accidents, incidents, and near misses and participating in investigations.
• Interpersonal Skills: Good interpersonal and human relations skills with the ability to work with people from diverse cultures.
• Work Ethic: Strong work ethic, physical energy, and ability to work long hours while maintaining quality standards.

Duty Station: This position is based at our site in Tarkwa. Candidates must be willing to relocate to or reside in Tarkwa.
