POSITION: Regulatory Counsel

Jumo seeks a talented Regulatory Counsel to join our dynamic legal team and navigate the complex regulatory landscapes across multiple African markets. The Strategic Nature of This Role

This position demands a self starter who operates effectively within a fast paced environment. Consequently, you will manage multifaceted cross border legal projects while applying sound commercial judgment. Furthermore, you will draft and research extensively in house, retaining outside counsel only when specific risks or specialised skills require external expertise. Your work will directly enable Jumo’s expansion and operational success across African markets.

Responsibilities

Independent Execution:

• Work autonomously while collaborating seamlessly with colleagues across departments
• Tackle complex legal projects spanning multiple jurisdictions
• Lead from the front without relying on hierarchy
• Roll up your sleeves and participate actively in all aspects of legal work

Commercial and Regulatory Balance:

• Weigh commercial interests against regulatory requirements effectively
• Apply sound judgment when navigating competing priorities
• Simplify complexity and focus on important commercial issues
• Communicate clearly and concisely with stakeholders at all levels

Adaptability and Resilience:

• Manage pressure within a high performance culture
• Adapt your approach to constantly evolving regulatory environments
• Navigate ambiguity with confidence and poise
• Demonstrate strong cultural awareness across diverse environments

Preferred Experience and Qualifications

Industry Background:

• Experience in micro credit, mobile money, telecommunications, banking, or lending sectors
• Understanding of financial services regulatory frameworks
• Track record of successful regulatory engagement

Regulatory Relationships:

• Established relationships with regulators in Ghana including Bank of Ghana and GIPC
• Connections with regulatory bodies in Kenya, Zambia, Uganda, and Tanzania
• Experience working within French speaking African territories such as Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire

Language Skills:

• Ability to speak and write French fluently will provide a significant advantage
• Strong written and verbal communication in English
