University of Hong Kong Presidential Scholarship 2027 (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the 2027 University of Hong Kong Presidential Scholarship. The programme aims to attract academically competent and research-led students from around the world and to provide them with financial support during their doctoral studies.

The University of Hong Kong Presidential Scholarship 2027 is an excellent opportunity for outstanding researchers from all around the world to study a full-time PhD at one of Asia’s top universities.

Selected HKU Presidential PhD Scholars will be provided with a support package of up to HK$445,800 (US$57,150) in the first year and up to around HK$428,300 (US$54,920) for each consecutive year during the normative study period.

The scholarship package includes a monthly postgraduate scholarship, tuition fee remission, research and living support, conference- and research-related travel allowance, and guaranteed university hall accommodation in the first year.

Along with financial support, students receive tailored academic assistance, teaching opportunities, mentoring from outstanding teachers, and the opportunity to interact with top academics.

Arts and Humanities

Relevant PhD programmes are available for anyone interested in research in language, literature, history, philosophy, culture and allied subjects in the humanities.

Business & Economics

If you are interested in business, economics, finance, management and related study topics, you might want to consider appropriate PhD programmes.

Engineering.

Engineering research opportunities available to prospective students include doctoral research in engineering, technology, infrastructure, computing and associated subjects.

Law.

The university offers PhD programmes in legal research for interested candidates.

Health Sciences and Medicine

Requirements for University of Hong Kong Presidential Scholarship 2027

1. Be Academically Outstanding

Candidates should have strong academic ability and have great potential. Candidates are expected to have a very good academic record and to demonstrate their ability to undertake advanced PhD study.

2. Have a Passion for Research

Candidates should have a strong interest in research and a real love for doctoral research. A defined research direction and prior academic or research experience may boost an application.

3. Apply for a full-time PhD programme at HKU.

Candidates must apply for a full-time PhD programme at the University of Hong Kong. The Presidential PhD Scholarship is for doctoral candidates enrolled in eligible full-time PhD programmes at HKU.

4. Apply During the Main Round

You can apply for the full-time PhD programme during the university’s main round (1 September to 1 December).

Benefits of the University of Hong Kong Presidential Scholarship 2027

Each HKU Presidential PhD Scholar selected will be provided with a total package of up to HK$445,800 (US$57,150) in the first year. This helps cover living, research, tuition, and other academic expenditures.
Second, students can get a package of up to HK$428,300 (US$54,920) a year.
The funding package allows students to focus on their PhD research and not have to pay the full cost of postgraduate study.
Students will also receive a postgraduate scholarship of HK$28,700 per month. This provides a regular financial allowance for living expenses for the duration of the funded research.
The grant also covers the waiver of writing expenses for the duration of the normative study.
In addition, a cash award is granted to help with research and living expenses.
