About the Fellowship

Zonta has funded women in aerospace since 1938. Over 1,800 fellowships have gone to women from 81 countries. Past fellows include astronauts, professors, and a US Secretary of the Air Force. One fellow annually earns the special Sharon Langenbeck designation.

What Fellows Receive

Fellows receive $12,000 to support their doctoral research directly. Funds may cover tuition, books, fees, or living expenses. The award applies at any accredited university worldwide. Previous fellows generally cannot reapply for a second consecutive year.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must be women in a full-time PhD or doctoral program. Candidates need one completed year, or a related master’s degree already. Zonta members and staff, plus their close family, cannot apply. Post-doctoral research programmes don’t qualify for this fellowship.

Required Materials

Applicants submit official transcripts and a verification of enrollment form. Three recommendations are required, including one from a thesis supervisor. A research essay must clearly connect the project to aerospace science.
