POSITION: Country Director
A leadership opportunity has opened at Amnesty International Ghana for a Country Director, offering an exceptional chance to shape the future of human rights advocacy in the country. Based in Accra, this position places you at the forefront of strategy, operations, and advocacy. You will work closely with the national Board to guide the organization into its next phase of growth. At the same time, you will expand influence, deepen partnerships, and ensure that programs deliver meaningful results.
What You Will Lead
As Country Director, you will take charge of both strategic direction and day to day leadership. Your core responsibilities will include:
Strategic Growth and Program Impact
- Expand human rights initiatives to address emerging national and regional issues
- Strengthen program delivery to achieve measurable and lasting outcomes
- Introduce innovative approaches that improve advocacy effectiveness
Membership and Public Engagement
- Grow membership and activist networks across Ghana
- Increase public participation in campaigns and awareness efforts
- Build a strong and recognizable national presence
Advocacy and Representation
- Represent the organization in media engagements, policy discussions, and international forums
- Influence decision makers and stakeholders on key human rights issues
- Strengthen advocacy strategies to drive real policy and social change
Partnership and Stakeholder Relations
- Build and maintain strong relationships with civil society groups and human rights actors
- Collaborate with partners to amplify impact and reach
- Engage government institutions and international stakeholders effectively
Organizational Leadership and Development
Beyond advocacy, you will ensure that internal systems operate efficiently and sustainably. Therefore, your responsibilities will also include:
- Strengthening governance structures and operational processes
- Managing teams and fostering a high performance culture
- Overseeing budgets and ensuring responsible financial management
- Driving fundraising efforts through strong proposals and donor engagement
In addition, you will work closely with the Board Chair, ensuring alignment between leadership and governance.
What You Need to Succeed
To excel in this role, candidates should bring a strong mix of experience, leadership ability, and strategic thinking. Ideal applicants will have:
- Extensive senior level experience in the human rights or development sector
- Proven leadership in managing teams, budgets, and complex projects
- Strong understanding of Ghana’s political and human rights landscape
- Experience engaging with media, government institutions, and global stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to develop funding proposals and manage donor funded projects
An advanced degree in human rights, law, or a related field will strengthen your application.
