Mo Ibrahim Foundation Leadership Fellowship Program 2027

Applications are open for the 2027 Mo Ibrahim Leadership Fellowship at AfDB. This selective program places African leaders in senior institutional roles. The Fellow works from AfDB headquarters in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Past cycles have consistently paid a $100,000 annual stipend.

About the Fellowship

This fellowship builds Africa’s next generation of senior leaders directly. The Fellow works closely with AfDB’s President and Managing Directors. Strategic research, policy analysis, and high-level meetings fill daily work. Mentorship comes from the very top of the institution itself.

What Fellows Receive

Fellows receive a substantial annual stipend, paid monthly by the Bank. Mission travel costs, including insurance, are covered separately. Relocation and repatriation travel expenses come from Foundation funding. Fellows arrange their own medical, education, and retirement plans.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must be African nationals, residing anywhere in the world. Candidates need a master’s degree and seven years of relevant experience. Government officials and active military personnel cannot apply. The Fellowship isn’t open to current or former AfDB staff.

Required Materials

Applicants submit a comprehensive CV noting nationality and education clearly. Academic transcripts and three recommendation letters are required. All materials must be submitted through AfDB’s online application system.
