Next-Geo Fellowship Program 2027 | Call for Applications

Applications are open for the Next-Geo Fellowship on geoeconomics research. The Kiel Institute coordinates this pan-European program with CEPR and Oxford. This add-on fellowship provides no stipend, salary, or living allowance. Around 10 junior scholars join each annual cohort.

About the Fellowship

Next-Geo is Europe’s first dedicated geoeconomics research program. It connects isolated young researchers scattered across different departments. Fellows complete a cohort-based project alongside senior mentors throughout. The programme culminates at the flagship Kiel-CEPR Geoeconomics Conference.

What Fellows Receive

Fellows access lectures, mentoring, and research assistant support directly. Funding covers data purchases and AI subscriptions for active projects. Travel and accommodation for in-person modules are fully covered. No employment contract, stipend, or formal degree accompanies this fellowship.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must be PhD students or postdocs within 2.5 years of graduation. Candidates should be enrolled or employed at a European institution. Economics is preferred, though related quantitative fields may qualify. Female researchers and candidates with disabilities are especially encouraged.

Required Materials

Applicants submit a CV, cover letter, and one-page project sketch. A writing sample and two potential references are also required. Proof of enrollment or employer permission follows for successful candidates.
