Latest Employment Opportunity at Jhpiego

POSITION: Regional Technical Officer

Jhpiego, an international nonprofit health organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University, is seeking a Regional Technical Officer to join the BEAT Breast Cancer project based in Tamale. If you hold a bachelor’s degree in medicine, nursing, midwifery, public health, or a related discipline, bring at least five years of public health program implementation experience, and want to work alongside Ghana Health Service to save lives, this role offers the perfect opportunity to make a lasting impact.

Why Jhpiego?

For 50 years across more than 155 countries, Jhpiego has worked to prevent the needless deaths of women and their families. We partner with health experts, governments, and community leaders to provide high quality health care for vulnerable populations. We design innovative, effective, and low cost healthcare solutions that break down barriers to care. Our evidence based interventions strengthen health systems, train competent healthcare workers, and improve care delivery. As Regional Technical Officer, you will join a global team committed to ensuring respectful, responsive services for all women.

Why This Project Matters

Breast cancer is the most frequent cause of cancer death in women across Africa. In Ghana, breast cancer has the highest incidence and mortality of all cancers. Jhpiego is partnering with the Pfizer Foundation on the BEAT Breast Cancer project, a transformational initiative aimed at reducing mortality through stage shifting, early diagnostics, and timely treatment. This partnership seeks to reduce the symptomatic period of breast cancer in Ghana from the current 12 months to less than three months. The project runs through December 2027 across selected districts in Ashanti, Greater Accra, and Northern regions.

Your Mission

You will support the provision of technical assistance to the BEAT Breast Cancer project and other related activities. Your focus will span implementation, project management, and technical support for breast cancer activities at national, regional, district, and primary healthcare levels. You will assist with work plan development, liaise with Ghana Health Service staff, and collaborate with partners and donors to ensure we meet project milestones and targets.

Key Responsibilities

Your role encompasses technical assistance, program monitoring, stakeholder collaboration, and reporting. Here is what you will tackle:

Technical Assistance & Program Implementation

  • You will provide technical assistance on breast cancer and other related program implementation, ensuring evidence based practices reach the frontlines.
  • Assisting with the design, implementation, monitoring, and assessment of activities keeps the project on track and responsive to real world conditions.

Monitoring, Reporting & Documentation

  • You will write and produce project monitoring tools, tracking matrices, and relevant reports as required. Your documentation will capture our progress and lessons learned.
  • Working closely with the technical lead and program staff ensures quality implementation and careful monitoring of spending at the regional level.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • You will work closely with Ghana Health Service leadership at regional and district levels to ensure seamless implementation of project activities.
  • Collaborating with the Technical Advisor to implement training, maintain services, and provide supportive supervision builds capacity across the health system.

Program Development & Adaptability

  • You will assist in developing new program approaches that link breast cancer services to related health services.
  • Performing other duties as necessary or assigned demonstrates your flexibility and team spirit.

What You Bring to the Role

We are looking for a candidate with the right qualifications, experience, and skills. Here is what you need:

Qualifications

  • A clinician with a bachelor’s degree in non communicable diseases, medicine, nursing, midwifery, public health, or a related health discipline. An advanced degree gives you a distinct advantage.

Experience

  • At least five years of technical expertise with a focus on public health program implementation.
  • Familiarity with Ghana health systems and reporting structures, plus demonstrated ability to collaborate with government level officials to strengthen program implementation.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate with a wide range of local and international partner organizations.

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent facilitation, team building, and coordination skills.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills, including demonstrated technical writing for publication.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse international teams, plus willingness to learn and empower others.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment with multiple tasks, short deadlines, and intense pressure to perform.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to implementation regions and health facilities.
  • Familiarity and experience working with MS Suite, Zoom, and other virtual platforms.

Our Expectations

All Jhpiego staff members, regardless of their level of responsibilities, are expected to:

  • Model the Jhpiego mission and values.
  • Participate in the business development process.
  • Contribute to the knowledge sharing and transfer process.
  • Make responsible decisions that result in time and cost containment and clear accountability.
  • Participate in multiple teams, adopt team spirit, take responsibility for action items assigned, and provide feedback as needed.
