The 2027 Commonwealth Foundation Grants Programme is currently open for applications from eligible civil society organisations and creative organisations across the Commonwealth. The programme offers grants of up to £60,000 for projects lasting up to two years.
The Commonwealth Foundation Grants Programme offers project funding to civil society organisations, networks, community-based organisations and qualifying creative organisations working toward positive social change.
Commonwealth Foundation Grants support programmes that seek to enhance constructive engagement between civil society and decision-makers, including meaningful participation in policy development and implementation.
Projects must align with at least one of the Foundation’s strategic impact areas, including freedom of expression, economic inclusion and climate and environmental justice. Applicants must also demonstrate how they have addressed gender and intersectionality in the design and implementation of their projects.

1. Grants for Organisations
- Individual Organization Grants are available to not-for-profit civil society groups and creative organisations that are registered in qualifying Commonwealth Foundation member nations.
- Organisations applying under this category should demonstrate that they have the proper legal standing and capacity to implement the proposed project.
- The proposed initiative should also align with the Commonwealth Foundation’s strategic impact areas and demonstrate its potential to effect significant social or policy transformation.
2. Grants for Collective Action
- Collective Action Grants are available for not-for-profit networks and collective organisations.

Requirements for the Commonwealth Foundation Grants Programme

- Each proposal should contribute to at least one of the Commonwealth Foundation’s strategic impact areas.

Freedom of Expression
- Projects can aim to increase people’s capacity to express themselves, to participate in public debate, to obtain information and to interact constructively with decision-makers.
Economic Inclusion
- Projects can address barriers to economic participation and improve prospects for populations who face exclusion or disadvantage.
Climate and Environmental Justice
- Projects may focus on environmental issues, climate-related disparities, environmental rights, community participation, and policy responses to climate change.
Requirements for Gender and Intersectionality
- A key requirement of the Commonwealth Foundation Grants Program is that candidates can explain how gender and intersectionality have influenced the design of their project.

Creative Advocacy Projects
