POSITION: Principal Exploration Geologist

AngloGold Ashanti Limited invites applications for the position of Principal Exploration Geologist, stationed in Obuasi, Ghana. This senior role supports the Africa Business Unit by delivering technical exploration expertise that maximises value from operating assets.

Job Summary

Gold production thrives on smart exploration. Therefore, this position directly influences how AngloGold Ashanti identifies, interprets, and develops new resources. You will partner with the Manager of Brownfields Exploration to shape site exploration budgets, structural geology studies, target generation, and orebody modelling. Ultimately, your work strengthens exploration success and downstream resource estimation.

Responsibilities

• Model the company’s safety values and assist with investigations whenever required.
• Build and sustain systems, processes, and drilling programs that meet plan, schedule, and budget targets while aligning with corporate standards.
• Support exploration pipelines, life-of-mine exploration planning, and site exploration programs designed to grow and replace Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves.
• Provide technical guidance in drilling design, geological and geophysical interpretation, target generation, orebody interpretation, and geological modelling for resource estimation.
• Champion best practice geological data collection, logging, sampling, data storage, drilling logistics, and contract management for drilling and assay laboratory services.
• Coach site-based exploration personnel while supporting reporting, compliance, technical due diligence, and engagement across sites, the Business Unit, and technical functions.

What AngloGold Ashanti Expects

• A degree in Geology or a related discipline.
• A postgraduate qualification would strengthen your candidacy.
• 10 to 15 years of brownfields exploration experience in operating mining environments.
• Exposure to both open pit and underground operations preferred.
• Proven success leading large brownfields drilling programs and exploration teams.
• Demonstrated expertise in structural interpretation and geological modelling for target generation.
• Experience managing large exploration budgets that delivered Resource and Reserve additions.
• Multisite or regional experience desirable, particularly within Africa or similar large-scale gold operations.
• A strong leadership track record in the resources industry.
• Advanced geological understanding of Archean gold terranes.
• Solid knowledge of geological and geophysical exploration techniques.
• Sharp strategic, analytical, and independent judgement.
• Ability to balance competing priorities against business objectives.
• Excellent leadership, coaching, interpersonal, influencing, and communication skills.
• Competence in financial decision making, risk management, and operational budgeting.
• Skills in exploration program design, geological data management, quality management, and contractor management.
• Willingness to work across cultures and travel for business.
