About the Fellowship

This fellowship gives researchers extensive training in a top global research environment. It also builds scientific networks and encourages international collaboration. Fellows continue research partnerships between Denmark and MIT afterward. Projects can range from fundamental studies to innovative applied work.

What Fellows Receive

NNF funds roughly DKK 1.2 million per year, up to DKK 3.6 million overall. Fellows work alongside an MIT principal investigator serving as primary mentor. They then return to a Danish institution for a final year. Partial co-funding from other sources is allowed if disclosed.

Who Can Apply

Applicants need a PhD in a relevant field within five years of starting. PhD students expected to graduate before the start date may also apply. Candidates must show ties to Denmark’s educational or research system. They need both an MIT host and a Danish host institution.

Required Materials

Applicants secure a confirmed MIT principal investigator as primary mentor. They also need a Danish institution to employ them and administer the grant. Projects must clearly explain their health or sustainability impact.
