About the Fellowship

Fellows begin with a remote course on AI and journalism fundamentals. It requires a full-time commitment and includes lectures and graded assignments. The course ends with a weeklong summit featuring speakers and workshops. Fellows then work as embedded reporters from September through May. Extension for an additional year is possible.

What Fellows Receive

Fellows earn a salary based on experience and their placement city. Travel and accommodation for the summit are fully covered. Senior fellows with over seven years of experience earn higher pay. They also commit about five hours weekly to mentoring during training. Fellows build a strong portfolio throughout the year.

Who Can Apply

Applicants need expertise in either journalism or artificial intelligence. They should show strong writing skills and genuine curiosity. Persistence and resilience in reporting are also essential. Partner newsrooms operate in London, Hong Kong, and several U.S. cities. Visa sponsorship is rare, so applicants should hold work rights.

Required Materials

Applicants complete the online application before the November deadline. Selected candidates then take a work test and interview with Tarbell. Interviews with partner newsrooms follow in early 2027.
