About the Fellowship

The fellowship lets researchers join a group at Uppsala University and build a research project there. After two years, fellows return to a Danish university or another Danish public or non-profit research institution. The foundation wants to advance outstanding early-stage researchers. It also aims to strengthen links between Danish research and Uppsala University.

Projects can range from fundamental studies to innovative applications. Applicants must explain clearly how the project could benefit health or sustainability.

What Fellows Receive

• Up to DKK 3.6 million over three years
• Research experience in an interdisciplinary international setting
• A host researcher at Uppsala University as primary mentor
• Employment and grant administration through a Danish host institution
• Stronger scientific networks and collaboration
• Other sources may co-fund the project, but applicants must state this in the application.

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet these requirements:

• A PhD in natural and technical sciences, biomedicine, or biotechnology within five years of the start date
• A host principal investigator at Uppsala University
• A confirmed Danish host institution and host investigator
• A link to the Danish education or research system
• No more than one year already spent as a postdoc at Uppsala University

Leave periods do not count toward the five years. PhD students may apply if their supervisor confirms graduation before the start date. A Danish link can mean a Danish degree, citizenship, or several years of research experience in Denmark. Applicants may submit only one NNF postdoctoral application at a time.
