About the Programme

GCAF created this programme to empower young African women artists. It provides support beyond its art workshops and exhibitions. Mentors meet mentees one-on-one online and in person. The programme suits artists who know what they want to learn. Mentees may also contribute to communities through exhibits and events.

What Mentees Receive

Mentees work with professional artists with at least ten years of practice. Mentors share expertise in exhibitions, grant writing, and gallery navigation. Sessions follow an informal, one-on-one learning style. Mentees also take part in group sessions and exhibitions. GCAF pays mentors an honorarium, so mentees pay no fees.

Applicants must be African women in the early stages of their careers. They must be between 19 and 40 years old. Individuals enrolled in post-secondary study cannot apply. Applicants should keep an active studio practice. They should also have created a body of work outside formal training.
