About the Award

This award supports projects, not personal study or research. It rewards a woman or a group of women who lead a concrete tree project through a non-profit. The theme responds to a global loss of urban green space. UN-Habitat reports that the global average share of urban green space fell from 19.5% in 1990 to 13.9% in 2020. Trees cool streets, shelter wildlife, and improve air quality. A study of 806 cities found that each 10% increase in tree canopy lowers temperature by about 0.3°C.

Eligible actions include:

• Hands-on urban tree education
• Urban agroforestry systems
• Preservation of notable or heritage trees
• Urban greening with a clear ecological approach
• Urban nurseries for native or endangered trees
• Re-greening dense areas, rooftops, and public facilities
• Restoring urban and peri-urban green spaces
