PICS Climate Internship Program 2026 in Canada

Organisations across British Columbia now have a powerful opportunity to advance climate work that stalled due to limited capacity. The PICS Climate Internship Program offers eligible organisations up to $15,000 in funding to hire a student climate intern for the following summer. Applications close on 20 November 2026.

What the Programme Offers

This initiative connects organisations with student talent while addressing real capacity gaps. Selected organisations receive:

  • Up to $15,000 in funding to support intern hiring
  • Dedicated project support for research, planning, and implementation
  • Access to student skills in data collection, analysis, communications, and policy research
  • Practical progress on climate initiatives delayed by limited staffing

What a Climate Intern Can Do

Interns contribute across a wide range of climate-related activities:

  • Research and analysis: reviewing studies, gathering information, comparing approaches, and preparing summaries
  • Data collection and climate assessments: organising datasets, supporting surveys, and documenting findings
  • Adaptation planning: researching climate risks and supporting strategy development
  • Mitigation planning: investigating emission reduction approaches and documenting proposed activities
  • Community engagement: coordinating outreach, preparing materials, and documenting feedback
  • Communications and knowledge mobilisation: drafting articles, summaries, and educational resources
  • Policy research: reviewing frameworks, comparing approaches, and preparing background briefs

Who Should Apply

The programme targets eligible organisations in British Columbia with climate projects they want to advance. Ideal applicants include organisations that have identified a climate-related initiative but lack the time or personnel to begin implementation. Projects may focus on research, adaptation, mitigation, community engagement, communications, or policy development.

How to Apply

Begin by defining your climate project and identifying the specific tasks an intern could complete. Consider the capacity gap preventing progress and how student support would address it. Establish expected outputs and plan supervision arrangements to ensure meaningful work experience. Review official guidelines for eligible expenses, funding conditions, and hiring requirements before submitting.
