About the Fellowship

Mozilla seeks builders who question who controls technology and who it should serve. Nearly 30% of past fellows founded an organization, and 20% run one today. The fellowship has two tracks:

• Track I, Embedded Fellows: Fellows work with a civil society host organization that provides mentorship and community. This year’s hosts are in Indonesia, Chile, Germany, the United States, and Nigeria.
• Track II, Independent Fellows: Fellows pursue their own ambitious idea, such as a platform or a set of tools.

What Fellows Receive

• Embedded Fellows: $100,000 total, split into a $75,000 stipend and a $25,000 project budget
• Independent Fellows: $125,000 total, split into a $100,000 stipend and a $25,000 project budget
• A global network of more than 200 fellows
• Mentorship from a host organization, for Embedded Fellows

Who Can Apply

There are no formal eligibility rules. Mozilla wants extraordinary builders, founders, and advocates. They should work on technology that gives control to the people who use it. Anyone can apply directly, and self-nominations are welcome. Others may nominate candidates.

Required Materials

The first stage requires a Letter of Intent. Mozilla invites a small number of shortlisted applicants to submit a full application in early 2027. Read the full request for proposals (RFP) for details.
