POSITION: Engine Field Service Technician
Cummins is seeking an Engine Field Service Technician – Level III to join our Service Operations Department in Accra, Ghana. If you hold an apprentice trained engine technician qualification, a technician level certification, or an engineering degree, bring significant hands on experience in heavy duty field service operations, and want to work across borders including remote or time critical locations, this role offers the perfect opportunity to act as the technical authority for major breakdowns, commissioning, warranty discussions, and OEM coordination.

Your Mission: Diagnose, Repair, and Coach
You will take responsibility for delivering reliable outcomes for customers across Ghana and potentially beyond. Your focus will span diagnostics, repairs, overhauls, rebuilds, preventative maintenance, customer relationship management, technical escalation, coaching, and sales opportunity identification. Your ability to work autonomously in remote, cross border, or high pressure operational settings while maintaining Cummins safety and quality standards will determine your success.

Diagnostics & Complex Repairs
- You will deliver high quality diagnostics, repairs, overhauls, and rebuilds across multiple engine products with minimal supervision.
- Applying specialized tools, documented procedures, and company policies helps you accurately resolve complex technical issues at customer sites.
Customer Relationships
- You will build and maintain strong customer relationships by providing prompt, efficient, and professional service that consistently meets customer needs.
- Acting as the technical authority during critical customer engagements, including major breakdowns, commissioning, warranty discussions, and OEM coordination, builds trust and loyalty.
Preventative Maintenance
- You will perform preventative maintenance in line with established schedules and standards, improving engine performance, reliability, and longevity.
- Catching small issues before they become major failures saves customers time and money.
Technical Escalation
- You will escalate unresolved or complex issues appropriately to product specialists or leadership, ensuring timely and effective resolution.
- Knowing when to ask for help demonstrates wisdom, not weakness.
Coaching & Mentoring
- You will coach, guide, and share technical knowledge with technicians and apprentices, supporting skill development and high service standards.
- Building the next generation of technicians strengthens the entire organization.
Business Growth
- You will identify additional service or sales opportunities during customer interactions, contributing to business growth and customer value.

What You Bring to the Role
We are looking for a candidate with the right education, experience, and technical competencies. Here is what you need:
Education & Qualifications
- Apprentice trained Engine Technician qualification (preferred).
- Technician level 1, 2, or 3 certification, Engineering Degree, or Diploma.
- Vocational diploma from a relevant technical institution.
- Locally valid driving permit.
Experience
- Significant hands on experience in heavy duty field service operations, preferably within mining, power generation, or industrial environments.
- Proven ability to work autonomously in remote, cross border, or high pressure operational settings while maintaining Cummins safety, quality, and service standards.
Technical Expertise
- Advanced technical expertise to independently diagnose, escalate, and resolve complex, high risk engine issues across borders, including remote or time critical environments.
- Strong technical leadership capability to mentor and guide technicians, enforce technical and safety standards, and drive consistent, high quality repairs across customer and dealer sites.
- Proven ability to repair and maintain mechanical and electrical systems by following documented guidelines, using specialized tools efficiently, minimizing cost of ownership, and restoring equipment to pre failure condition.
Communication Skills
- Strong communication skills to clearly explain complex technical issues and solutions to customers, dealer personnel, and internal Cummins stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate in French to support technical discussions in francophone markets gives you an advantage but is not mandatory.
