Why Absa Bank?

As an SME Banker, you will not simply process transactions; you will identify and acquire fully funded transactional SME customers, develop strong long term relationships, and increase wallet share through customized financial solutions. You will promote credit facilities, deposits, bancassurance, forex, trade, digital solutions, and retail products. Moreover, you will conduct a minimum of 20 client visits per month, staying close to your customers and their evolving needs.

Your focus will span sales and service (60%), business management (25%), risk and control (10%), and staff management (5%). Your ability to achieve sales targets, assess creditworthiness, and maintain a non performing loan ratio below 5% will determine your success.

  • Providing exceptional customer service by addressing enquiries and resolving issues promptly builds loyalty.
  • Conducting regular client reviews identifies opportunities for additional support.

Business Management (25%)

  • You will assess the creditworthiness of SME clients, preparing detailed credit proposals for consideration by the credit team.
  • Ensuring that all relevant documents for annual review reach the credit team on time prevents delays and frustrated customers.
  • Monitoring and controlling portfolio quality using “Condition of Sanction” triggers where possible, in line with credit policy, protects the bank from excessive risk.
  • Ensuring the Non Performing Loan ratio does not exceed 5% keeps the portfolio healthy and profitable.

Risk & Control (10%)

  • You will ensure that all activities and duties comply fully with regulatory requirements, the Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework, and internal Absa Bank policies and standards.
  • Understanding and managing risks and risk events (incidents) relevant to the role prevents surprises and protects the bank’s reputation.

Staff Management (5%)

  • You will provide day to day coaching and coordination of Corporate Support staff, ensuring consistent service quality and risk management.
  • Building the capabilities of support staff multiplies your effectiveness.
