POSITION: Vice President, Investment Banking

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated is seeking a Vice President, Investment Banking to join our team. If you hold a Master’s degree in Economics or Business Administration, speak fluent English and French, and bring at least eight years of client facing experience with a proven track record, this role offers the opportunity to shape the investment banking landscape across multiple African markets.

Your Mission

You will lead the origination of advisory and capital market solutions across multiple product areas in your country. Your focus will span business development, relationship management, process compliance, and people development. You will provide close support to the Regional Head of IB while establishing a high degree of trust with clients during execution. Understanding Ecobank’s approach to risk management, legal rules, and regulatory requirements will guide your decisions.

Key Responsibilities

Your role spans business development, relationship management, reporting, and team leadership. Here is what you will tackle:

Business Development

  • You will identify new advisory and capital market opportunities within existing or new clients, ensuring a steady flow of potential mandates.
  • Developing an aggressive deal pipeline by working closely with Coverage Teams keeps our transaction funnel robust and diverse.

Relationship Management

  • You will maintain excellent relationships with clients, sponsors, and relevant official stakeholders including government agencies and regulators.
  • Building and sustaining good relationships with colleagues, especially Coverage Managers across the Bank, enables seamless collaboration and knowledge sharing.

Process & Reporting

  • You will ensure full compliance with regulators, authorities, and Ecobank Group policies, protecting our license to operate.
  • Submitting all reporting, financial data, and statements accurately and on time demonstrates accountability and professionalism.
  • Preparing reporting and financial returns as required in partnership with the Finance Business partner keeps leadership informed.

People Management & Development

  • You will provide support, coaching, and training to all staff members, actively building capacity across the team.
  • Motivating, leading, and developing the Advisory and Capital Market Team across the footprint drives consistent profitability.
  • Implementing clear processes for target setting and appraisals ensures accountability and recognizes performance.

What You Bring to the Role

We are looking for a candidate with the right education, experience, skills, and personal attributes. Here is what you need:

Experience & Qualifications

  • A Master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, or a related field of study.
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, especially Excel skills.
  • At least eight years of experience with a proven track record in a client facing role.
  • Ability to interact and negotiate with clients at the top level.
  • Knowledge of African markets or industry background.
  • Good understanding of credit.
  • Sound business judgment to quickly assess opportunities and risks.

You will provide close support to the Regional Head of IB in creating and maintaining strong relationships with high value customers, facilitating a strong pipeline of quality deals. Establishing a high degree of trust with clients during execution while demonstrating an understanding of their needs and responsiveness will define your success. You will also need to demonstrate leadership capabilities, including the ability to organize and manage human resources from varied cultural backgrounds to attain goals.
