GEOLOG, a world leader in oilfield services, is seeking a Senior Surface Logger for our Ghana operations. If you hold a postgraduate degree in geology or a related field, bring at least five years of mud logging experience on drilling rigs including exploration and complex environments, and understand HPHT well complexities, this role offers the opportunity to work with a global company operating in over 40 countries.

As a Senior Surface Logger, you will not simply collect samples; you will install and maintain specialized software and hardware, monitor rig activity, generate technical reports, and serve as the first point of contact for onsite technical support. Your Mission

You will take responsibility for analyzing all data during drilling operations and preparing final logs and reports for the onsite well site Geologist and company man. Your strong communication skills will enable you to liaise directly with client representatives, the tool pusher, and the well site Geologist. As a team leader, you will also oversee the wellbeing and cohesion of your surface logging team.

Key Responsibilities

Your role spans equipment management, real time monitoring, client support, reporting, sample analysis, and team leadership. Here is what you will tackle:

Equipment & Software Management

You will install and maintain GEOLOG software and hardware for acquiring and measuring drilling parameters, ensuring reliable data flow.
Troubleshooting equipment issues quickly minimizes downtime and keeps operations moving.

Real Time Monitoring & Analysis

You will monitor rig activity in real time, supporting data analysis and interpretation.
Identifying anomalies as they occur allows you to alert rig supervisors before small issues become major problems.

Client Support & Communication

You will serve as the first point of contact for onsite technical support, answering client questions and resolving concerns.
Communicating effectively with client representatives, tool pushers, and well site Geologists keeps everyone aligned.

Reporting & Documentation

You will generate dedicated technical reports and logs, documenting formation characteristics, drilling parameters, and anomalies.
Ensuring all reports reach clients on time and in the required format demonstrates professionalism.

Sample Collection & Description

You will collect formation samples and describe them for chemical and geomechanical analysis, providing critical data for drilling decisions.

Team Leadership & Training

You will manage and train all employees in your team, including surface loggers and sample catchers, building their skills and confidence.

What You Bring to the Role

Education & Experience

A postgraduate degree in geology or a related field provides your technical foundation.
A minimum of five years of experience in mud logging on drilling rigs, including exploration and complex environments.
Proven, extensive knowledge of rig safety regulations and safety issues.

Technical Competencies

Good understanding of rig operations with the ability to interpret anomalies in real time.
Good understanding of complexities while drilling HPHT (high pressure, high temperature) wells.
Ability to communicate effectively with client representatives and rig supervisors.
Ability to generate relevant reports and submit them to clients as required.
An analytical and methodical approach to work, ensuring no data point goes unnoticed.

Personal Attributes

Strong leadership skills to manage and train team members effectively.
Ability to pass a work related physical and drug screening, as required for rig based roles.
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
