POSITION: Managing Director

Graphic Communications Group Limited stands as Ghana’s foremost media organization, publisher of the iconic Daily Graphic and six other influential brands including the Weekend Mirror, Junior Graphic, and Graphic Sports. We currently seek an exceptional Managing Director to serve as our Chief Executive Officer and lead our organization into its next chapter of growth and transformation. A Role of Strategic Leadership

The Managing Director position represents far more than administrative oversight. You will take full responsibility for the overall leadership, coordination, guidance, and supervision of the Group’s work, subject to the general directions the Board provides. Your leadership will directly influence our strategic direction, operational excellence, and continued relevance in an increasingly competitive media landscape. Consequently, we seek an individual who combines strategic vision with operational expertise and deep understanding of the media industry.

Core Responsibilities

Your leadership will encompass these critical functions:

• Administer and manage the Group on a day-to-day basis with decisive action
• Implement policies effectively while supporting the formulation of strategic plans
• Ensure the preparation and submission of relevant operational reports to the Board promptly
• Develop and maintain a management culture fostering cooperation, commitment, efficiency, accountability, productivity, and healthy labour relations
• Develop and implement systems and methods for effective monitoring and control of Group activities
• Execute any other relevant duties and responsibilities the Board assigns

Required Qualifications and Experience

Educational Foundation:
Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree in the Sciences or Arts, preferably in Mass Communications, Journalism, Business or Public Administration, Engineering Economics, Management, or possess a Post Graduate professional certification or qualification. Relevant specialist industry training at a senior management position in a reputable institution will also be considered.

Term Requirements:
The successful candidate must be able to serve a term of four years before reaching the compulsory retirement age of 60 years.

Competencies and Skills Required

• Strategic Capabilities: The ability to design strategies that respond to the changing needs of the media industry remains essential. Strong managerial and organizational skills will determine your success in this role. Demonstrable knowledge of media and communication, particularly news electronic transmission, proves fundamental.
• Leadership Qualities: Excellent administrative and supervisory skills will enable effective team management. Being a good team player while providing decisive leadership matters greatly. Excellent communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills will facilitate stakeholder engagement at all levels. Proficiency in computer and software applications remains non-negotiable.
• Regulatory Knowledge: Conversance with the Financial Administration Act, the Procurement Act, the Internal Audit Agency Act, the National Media Commission Act, and the 1992 Constitution proves essential for navigating Ghana’s regulatory environment. Excellent marketing orientation and good knowledge of media networks, particularly print media, will distinguish top candidates.

The Current Context

Graphic Communications Group continues its transformation journey, balancing its legacy print operations with digital expansion. The company has survived without government subvention while fulfilling its public good mandate. However, challenges persist, including the need for press retooling requiring approximately €800,000 and navigating a cedi-denominated business where 85 to 90 per cent of raw materials are quoted in euros or dollars. The company’s credibility remains unmatched, with the NMC Chairperson affirming that “once it is Graphic, it is believed”. A digital-first approach now drives the organization’s future direction .
