Job Title: Junior Technical Advisor

Job Summary

GIZ is a public-benefit federal enterprise operating in more than 100 countries worldwide. We work on behalf of the German Government, supporting public and private sector clients in areas including economic development, energy, environment, and peace and security. In Ghana, our priorities cover Climate and Energy, Sustainable Economic Development, and Peaceful and Inclusive Societies.

We are currently seeking a Junior Technical Advisor to support the Agency for Business and Economic Development (AWE). AWE serves as the central point of contact for the private sector, advising companies and business associations on cooperation and funding opportunities. In Ghana, AWE connects local market needs with German and EU private sector solutions in sustainable value chains, climate action, and sustainable energy. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of business and development.

Responsibilities

As Junior Technical Advisor, you will support the origination and implementation of private sector cooperation projects. You will conduct needs assessments, facilitate partnerships, and advise companies on development instruments. Moreover, you will coordinate with trade promotion bodies and the GIZ NIED Cluster. You will also interface with AWE Germany for reporting and handle essential administrative tasks. Your work will directly contribute to building bridges between Ghanaian markets and international solutions.

Your core responsibilities will include:

Advisory Services & Project Origination

  • Advise Companies on Funding Instruments: You will support advisory services for companies interested in BMZ and EU instruments like develoPPP. You will coordinate closely with AWE experts in Germany to provide accurate, helpful guidance.
  • Identify Cooperation Potentials: You will spot opportunities to connect private sector cooperation instruments with the existing GIZ portfolio in Ghana and the region. You will contribute to designing new cooperation projects in sustainable value chains, climate and resources, and sustainable energy.
  • Support Project Development: You will help shape project ideas from conception through to implementation. You will ensure they align with both private sector goals and development objectives.

Coordination & Liaison

  • Coordinate with Local Partners: You will work closely with local trade and investment promotion instruments. You will maintain strong links with the GIZ NIED Cluster in Ghana.
  • Liaise with AWE Germany: You will serve as a key point of contact with AWE headquarters in Germany. You will support reporting and ensure smooth communication flows.

Event Management & Administration

  • Organize Conferences and Workshops: You will take charge of logistics for events, trainings, and workshops. You will prepare documents, presentations, and invitations. You will take minutes and ensure everything runs smoothly.
  • Manage Administrative Processes: You will handle travel arrangements for the team. You will prepare and monitor procurement of goods and services in strict compliance with GIZ Processes and Rules (P+R).
  • Ensure Compliance: You will follow GIZ procedures diligently. You will maintain accurate records and documentation.

Knowledge Management & Reporting

  • Prepare Concept Notes and Reports: You will draft clear, concise documents that capture project progress and insights. You will support knowledge management within the team.
  • Contribute to Monitoring and Evaluation: You will help track project activities and measure outcomes. You will provide data and observations that inform continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications & Experience

We are looking for a proactive, organized, and intellectually curious individual with a foundation in economics or business and a passion for sustainable development.

To excel in this role, you will need:

Qualifications & Experience

  • A Master’s degree in Economics, Business, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Between 1 to 3 years of experience in private sector cooperation, project development, or a related area.
  • Knowledge of sustainable supply chains, climate mitigation, or energy efficiency is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with development cooperation instruments such as BMZ or EU programs. If not, you must demonstrate a fast learning ability.
