South Korea Global Internship Program 2027

The Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) invites international students to apply for its Global Intern Program (GIP) 2027. This eight-week summer research internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on laboratory experience at one of South Korea’s premier science and technology institutions. The program helps participants determine if pursuing an advanced degree at GIST is the right path while building valuable research skills under the mentorship of distinguished faculty.

Program Benefits

Selected interns receive comprehensive support throughout the eight-week placement.

The program provides half of the round-trip airfare, free dormitory accommodation, and a monthly stipend for living expenses.
Interns also benefit from Korean language classes, cultural exploration activities, and special lectures designed to enrich their experience.
The program schedule includes a seven-week research period for writing a short paper, followed by an eighth week dedicated to preparing and presenting a research poster.

Research Areas

GIST offers internship opportunities across multiple schools and departments. Participants can join research labs in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, Life Sciences, Physics and Chemistry, Biomedical Science and Engineering, and Integrated Technology. Each school selects interns through its own evaluation process, and the International and Public Affairs Team cannot influence these decisions.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be international undergraduate seniors or master’s degree students with a GPA of 3.0 or above.
English proficiency is essential, demonstrated through a TOEFL iBT score of 80 or an equivalent test. However, students from English-speaking countries or those whose home university uses English as the medium of instruction may submit a certificate confirming “Medium of Instruction is English” instead of a test score.

How to Apply

The application process begins by creating an online account on the GIST website. Applicants must complete the online form, select two preferred laboratories, and upload a research plan. Required documents include original degree certificates, official transcripts in English, a letter of recommendation, and English language proficiency proof. The application period typically opens in February and closes in late February or early March. Shortlisted candidates receive notifications in late April, with the program running from mid-June to mid-August.

Conclusion

This internship offers exceptional value for students seeking international research exposure in a cutting-edge scientific environment. The combination of financial support, mentorship, and cultural immersion creates a transformative opportunity to advance your research career while experiencing South Korea’s vibrant academic culture.
